I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

For the most current guidelines, program updates, and additional venue information and restrictions, please visit bryantpark.org.

Performances are set to begin on Thursday, August 19 (through August 29) on the beautiful grounds of The Emerson Resort & Spa (5340 New York 28, Mount Tremper, NY). Tickets are $30/$15 (students) and may be purchased online here or at the show before each performance. Additionally, low-or-no-cost tickets may be obtained on the website. In Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, when Viola finds herself shipwrecked and separated from her twin brother Sebastian in the unfamiliar country of Illyria, she dresses in his clothes and calls herself Cesario in order to serve the Count Orsino. Tasked with wooing Lady Olivia on Orsino’s behalf, Viola/Cesario plunges into the social, political, and romantic intrigues of Illyria’s hoi polloi. By turns hilarious and heartrending, Twelfth Night takes us on an adventure from the depths of grief to the heights of joy, and along the way explores the fluidity of love, gender, identity, and time. Embracing the Elizabethan spirit of audience interaction, physical comedy, and live music, this production will be a theatrical party that feels contemporary, fervent, and fun.

The Emerson Resort & Spa is a hidden treasure located a mere two hours from Manhattan. Designed with the splendor of the Catskill Mountains and Hudson Valley in mind, open spaces and oversized windows expose stunning views and bring the beauty of the outside in. Enjoy spacious accommodations in the contemporary Inn or Adirondack-style Lodge, nature-inspired treatments at our award-winning spa, our signature restaurant, Woodnotes Grille, The Shops at Emerson and the World’s Largest Kaleidoscope. 8) Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company
presents Dandelion, the first in a series of monthly dance films
on New Educational Digital Platform Dance With US

New York-based nonprofit performing and teaching organization Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company premiered Dandelionthe first installment of a monthly series of dance films available on Dance With Us, a newly-launched educational digital platform that launched in June.

Dandelion
It's a flower. It's a weed. It's music. It's noise. There is attraction. There is disinterest. Fascination. Boredom. We live life straddling opposites, finding difference, labeling things as fact when the eye and ear belong to the beholder. Dandelion attempts to be all these things at once. It is a metaphor for being rooted, for perseverance; it is also a visual collection of poems and a meditation on time, repetition, patterns, burnout, and balance. To enter the world of the dandelion requires slowing down and focusing in, actions quite counter to the pace and scope of most daily life. To watch Dandelion, visit https://www.dancewithus.org/.

pcoming Monthly Dances to Premiere on the Dance With Us Platform

August 2021: Adrift and Charged
A relationship adrift. Set on a floating dock and filmed last summer in Upstate NY, the film features a couple together yet apart. Created during the pandemic, Adrift positions the two dancers in close proximity, drifting. Unmoored, yet also contained, abandoned, yet also rooted. Charged is another dance film created during the pandemic, commissioned by the Texas-based Flatlands Dance Theatre. It premiered in a limited release last May. This August it will become available to all. The humorous six-minute film showcases an over-caffeinated character in her kitchen toggling between chaotic organization and organized chaos. If not on the verge of a nervous breakdown, a woman on the brink of disaster.

September 2021: Back to School: The Lecture
Released for the first time, The Lecture, an evening-length solo that premiered at The Ailey Citigroup Theater in 2010 mixes the serious with the comic, the existential with the everyday. Set to a score of pre-recorded lectures by university professors, The Lecture marries the intellectual and the physical to explore a variety of subjects including the history of language, the science of happiness, the nature of abstraction, mathematics, human evolution, and dreams. Watch the trailer!

October 2021: Camo Man Dances
Filmed on location in Ucross, Wyoming, Daniel's alter ego, Camo Man, is out in the wild, blending into the landscape in dress and site-specific choreography, sticking out by performing contemporary modern dance into the untouched 20,000 private acres of cattle ranch on the Ucross Foundation's property.

November 2021: Just in Time for the Thanksgiving Holidays: Castillo
Filmed in southern Spain, Castillo was shot on location at The Castillo de Blanca, a castle erected in the 12th century in the Spanish town of Blanca (Region of Murcia). Daniel's daily investigation and interrogation of the site was an arduous and risky process, climbing 730 feet daily underneath the intense summer heat, while the town took siesta, and onto the two towers and risky pinnacle, without being tethered. Watch the trailer! (password: castillo)

December 2021: Just in Time for the December Holidays: The Performer
The Performer considers constructions of performance and homes in on the curvilinear separating fantasy from reality and drama from camp. The Performer presents a documentation of an over-the-top artist, a moody bon vivant with a penchant for excess and grand expression who lives large, including in the recesses of his head. The film is shot in the house Picasso gave to the surrealist artist Dora Maar, his famous muse and mistress, when he ended their relationship. Dora, significantly altered, lived and died in this maison in the Provençal village of Ménerbes, France. The film takes inspiration from her life, tackling the schism between the performance of self that one broadcasts to the public, and that which one endures privately. Watch the trailer!

Also featured on the Dance With Us site are exclusive narrated video clips from all of the special guests from the site's launch, as well as an exclusive guided tour which provided the first inside peek of the site from Daniel himself. Other highlights of the platform launch event include the premieres of Parade, Willow, Dollhouse, and a newly edited version of last year's acclaimed The Fantasyland Project, all of which were produced during the pandemic; and the opening of the Dance With Us Photo Gallery. Mixing discussions, dancing, and conversations, the interactive premiere was highly accessible, entertaining, and educational. Watch the trailer!

11) George Street Playhouse announces 2021-2o22 Season

The Playhouse Will Present Two Hilarious Comedies, a Gripping Family Drama, a New Play from an Academy Award Nominee and the Long Awaited Musical  A Walk on the Moon

The season will include four plays, plus the East Coast premiere of the musical A Walk on the Moon, to be presented on the stage of the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center.

Following a successful streaming season this past year, George Street Playhouse’s 5-play 2021/22 season will begin in October and run through May.

For the first production of George Street Playhouse’s long-anticipated re-opening, award-winning playwright and master of comedy Ken Ludwig (Lend Me A Tenor, The Fox on the Fairway) brings New Jersey a new romantic comedy, Ken Ludwig’s Dear Jack, Dear Louise — a love story set during World War II about a young soldier courting his sweetheart, a young actress on Broadway.

What starts with long distance letter writing ends in a “sweep you off your feet” meeting in Times Square. This funny, touching, patriotic and uplifting story, based on the playwright’s parents, is just the perfect “Welcome Home to George Street Playhouse.” Come fall in love with live theatre all over again.

Ken Ludwig’s Dear Jack, Dear Louise will begin performances October 26 and continue through November 21.

Following this year’s critically acclaimed virtual production of It’s Only A Play by Terrence McNally, George Street Playhouse will bring this hilarious comedy onto the stage to be seen in-person!

A Tony Award-winner and longtime friend of George Street, McNally left us this past year, and the Playhouse looks forward to celebrating his life with his hysterical comedy set at a Broadway Opening Night Party.

The New York Times called this valentine to the theatre “a hilarious gold-mining hit”

George Street’s production features a cast of award-winning Broadway farceurs who have to be seen in-person to be believed. The return to George Street Playhouse’s larger stage in the Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater will be a laugh-filled night to forget your troubles with guffaws!

It’s Only a Play, directed by Kevin Cahoon (George Street’s The Nerd), will begin performances on November 30th and continue through December 19th.

Next, George Street Playhouse Artistic Associate Laiona Michelle (Little Girl Blue: The Nina Simone Musical; American Hero) helms Her Portmanteau, a fascinating new play about Nigerian American immigrants that opens our eyes to the Nigerian culture, especially as it becomes assimilated in America.

Reminiscent of an Arthur Miller family drama, Ms. Udofia’s moving work, touches on universal themes of mother-daughter relationships; forgiveness; reconciliation; and the struggle associated with leaving our countries of origin behind, while still holding on to the rich cultural heritage.

Her Portmanteau will be onstage January 18 - February 13, 2022.

Next, George Street Playhouse is honored to welcome the extremely talented, award-winning Director/ Choreographer Julio Monge, who will helm the American English-language premiere of a play by iconic Puerto Rican Academy Award-nominee Jacobo Morales.

Baipás (a byway detour from the main road) presents a magical world in which two very diverse, strong individuals are thrown together into a strange place. Using the legendary sensuous Bolero, they come to choose life and love. As this man and woman dance through the byways of love between clarity and confusion, with a healthy dose of sarcastic humor, they arrive in an unexpected place.

A romantic pas de deux!

Baipás will begin performances on March 4 and continue through March 27, 2022.

After more than a year of anticipation, George Street Playhouse is thrilled to announce that A Walk on the Moon will close our season!

The George Street Playhouse is excited to present the east coast premiere of A Walk on the Moon, a musical based on the film of the same name.  Welcome to the iconic summer of 1969 when man walked on the moon, women fought for equal rights, the War in Vietnam raged on, and Woodstock showed America what the new generation stood for.  At  a Jewish bungalow colony in the Catskills, a young wife and mother, Pearl Kantrowitz, has an affair with the handsome Blouseman. While the affair jeopardizes her marriage and creates pain and turmoil, Pearl is forced to undertake a journey of self-discovery.

A Walk on the Moon will begin performances on April 27 and continue through May 22, 2022.

Policy Regarding Vaccination Requirements for George Street Playhouse Audiences:

Proof of full Covid-19 vaccination with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine will be required for entry.

South Street Seaport Museum announces Opera In Depth: Exploring What Lies Beneath, a virtual discussion on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 7:30pm, in advance of On Site Opera’s upcoming production of What Lies Beneath specifically designed for the 1885 tall ship Wavertree. Join artists and members of the creative team for a conversation about what it takes to create an opera on the deck of a historic ship. Reserve free tickets at seaportmuseum.org/osopera.

How do composers choose which stories they tell? What is it like to produce live performances in today's climate? Hosted by Laura Norwitz, Senior Director of Programs and Education, South Street Seaport Museum; moderated by Eric Einhorn, Co-Director, What Lies Beneath; and with panelists Winston A Benons, Jr., Co-Director/Cultural Advocate; James Davis, Jr., Conductor; Damien Geter, Composer; and mezzo-soprano Tesia Kwarteng, the discussion will be presented virtually, broadcast from onboard the 1885 tall ship Wavertree, with panelists joining from various locations. A brief Q&A will follow. This virtual event is free and available to all, regardless of plans to see the opera.

What Lies Beneath will be performed August 28-September 2, 2021. Performances are free, with a suggested ticket donation of $40. Reserve tickets at osopera.org/productions/what-lies-beneath/.

Combining song, story, history, and movement as the company returns to live performance, What Lies Beneath is a site-specific and immersive experience aboard WavertreeWavertree is designated on the National Register of Historic Places and represents the thousands of ships that docked along New York’s waterfront over the centuries. Built of riveted wrought iron in 1885, Wavertree is an archetype of the sailing ships of the latter half of the 19th century that, during the “age of sail,” lined South Street by the dozens, creating a forest of masts from the Battery to the Brooklyn Bridge.

From the enticements used to lure Africans into enslavement to Captain Ahab’s final moments of moral reckoning aboard the whaling ship Pequod in Moby DickWhat Lies Beneath is a series of six unique vignettes featuring works from Amistad, by Anthony Davis & Thulani Davis, Ahab, a monodrama by Juliana Hall & Caitlin Vincent, 1619, a choral song cycle by Damien Geter, Billy Budd, by Benjamin Britten, E.M. Forester, & Eric Crozier, Sea Fever, by John Ireland & John Masefield and Riders to the Sea, by Ralph Vaughn Williams and John Millington Sygne. On the heels of their most recent project, The Road We Came, a 3-part walking tour through Black Music History, What Lies Beneath continues to use opera and music to explore themes of social justice, racial inequality and history’s continuing impact on the lens through which the world is experiencing today.
