I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

After a year of limitations due to COVID-19, the popular ACT (A Contemporary Theatre) of Connecticut is fully opening its doors to live audiences and is thrilled to announce its upcoming 2021–2022 season. The season features four spectacular shows: Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Nickel Mines, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Rent

ACT of CT’s 2021–2022 season:

SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE – The Songs of Leiber and Stoller
One of Broadway’s most enduring hits, Smokey Joe’s Cafe is a celebration of legendary songwriting team Leiber and Stoller, who virtually invented Rock & Roll. This high-energy show features nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, including “Jailhouse Rock,” "Stand By Me,” “Yakety Yak,” “Hound Dog,” “On Broadway,” “Spanish Harlem” and many more. Smokey Joe’s Cafe is a fun-filled night of electrifying 50’s Rock & Roll that will leave you flying high! This production’s Director / Choreographer will be Smokey Joe’s Cafe’s original west-end production cast member, Stephanie Pope Lofgren.

Words and Music by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller
Performance dates: September 30–October 24, 2021

NICKEL MINES
This new musical is centered around the infamous 2006 Lancaster, Pennsylvania Amish schoolhouse shooting in which a lone gunman shot ten girls (five fatally) before taking his own life. A breathtaking piece of theater, it combines spoken dialogue, movement and original music to explore multiple viewpoints and perspectives from that fateful morning. Nickel Mines is a living memorial to the young girls who lost their lives and a powerful exploration of community, perseverance and ultimately, hope. Nickel Mines will be Directed and Choreographed by Andrew Palermo and is presented in association with Anita Donofrio.

Conceived by Andrew Palermo
Written by Andrew Palermo and Shannon Stoeke
Music and Lyrics by Dan Dyer
Performance dates: January 20–January 30, 2022 (10 performances only).

ACT of CT is the first professional theater to premiere this fascinating, elegant and moving new musical. Due to Covid-19, “Nickel Mines” (which was originally scheduled for March 19–29, 2020) was canceled just days before opening. ACT of CT is ecstatic to be able to bring back this important and powerful new musical as part of its 2021–2022 season.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
This timeless rock opera follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary, his disciples and the Roman Empire. The iconic 70's rock score contains such well-known songs as “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane.” A true global phenomenon, Jesus Christ Superstar has been wowing audiences for 50 years. This production will be directed by ACT of CT’s Artistic Director, Daniel C. Levine.

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by Tim Rice
Performance dates: March 24–April 17, 2022

RENT
Rent is a show about falling in love, following your dreams, and finding your voice! Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Rent has become a pop-cultural phenomenon. The story follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side. In this groundbreaking musical, these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts and learn that there is “no day but today!"

Book, Music and Lyrics by Jonathan Larson

Can he think for himself? Is the truth in the details or in the pudding? He hasn't a clue. Stuck in a coma of stupidity (his IQ has dropped to Q) he racks his brain searching for answers but finds nothing but voices. Inner voices that take him on a freight train of provocative thought to find the bigger picture and wake up from the dumbing down of modern-day life. Having been brainwashed by a culture that worships image over character, delusion over truth, and selfies over self-effacement; can he snap out of it?

The Book of Moron will play Thursday - Saturday at 9pm with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.

Tickets for The Book of Moron are $45 for regular seating and $35 for the back two rows. $55 premium tickets are available. After a year of Covid, the Producers have chosen to deflate prices in order to make it easier for morons everywhere to inflate their joie de vivre. Even teenage morons.

10) PASSAGE THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES ITS 2021-22 SEASON, “TRENTON MAKES”

The all-Trenton season marks the company’s
return to in-person performances.

Passage Theatre Company, a professional theatre company located in the heart of Trenton, New Jersey is pleased to announce its 2021-22 season and its return to in-person theatre at Mill Hill Playhouse (205 E. Front Street, Trenton).  Embracing the company’s Mercer County roots, Passage’s year of programming is themed “Trenton Makes.”  All shows presented during the 2021-22 season have been created by the Trenton community--artists and residents--for the Trenton community.  These world-premiere productions have been developed through Passage Theatre Company’s innovative PlayLab Program, which provides emerging and established artists a platform for sharing diverse perspectives on complex and important issues.

The company’s 2021-22 season features:

The OK Trenton Project (February 3-20, 2022)

Passage returns to live, in-person performance with The OK Trenton Project writte
n by David Lee White, Richard Bradford, and members of The OK Trenton Ensemble. Five years ago, a group of Trenton students spent their summer creating a sculpture entitled “Helping Hands.”  They learned the skills necessary to build something out of nothing with the promise of their work being publicly displayed in their community.  Four days after installation, the sculpture was removed due to anonymous complaints that the piece too closely resembled a gang symbol. Based on a true story and composed entirely of verbatim interviews from those directly involved, The OK Trenton Project is an experience that explores the role art plays in our community and the consequences we face when it’s taken away.  This world-premiere production is directed by C. Ryanne Domingues.

Group! (May 5-May 22, 2022)

The world premiere of its new musical Group! comes to Passage in the spring.  With music by Aleksandra M. Weil, lyrics by Eloise Govedare, and book by Julia B. Rosenblatt, Group! tells the story of six women from vastly different worlds who come together to battle the great equalizer: addiction. Group! explores the moments of fear, celebration, and everything in-between as these women grapple with their mental health in the face of sobriety. Who will make it? Who will fall off of the proverbial wagon? And can the current mental health care system really support a path towards long-term recovery?

Junior High #2: The Hedgepeth-Williams Story (Theatre for Families and Young Audiences Show, March 30-April 3, 2022

Passage’s popular Theatre for Families and Young Audiences is back in a new and exciting premiere. This year, two of Passage’s playwrights, Rich Bradford and David Lee White, will team up with students at Hedgepeth Williams Middle School to create a play that tells the story of the 1940’s historic court case that changed the middle school and community forever. In Junior High #2: The Hedgepeth-Williams Story, Gladys Hedgepeth and Berline Williams challenged the Trenton school formerly known as Junior High No. 2 and its policy of segregation after their children were not admitted due to their race. After a historic legal battle, the New Jersey Supreme Court struck down the widespread practice of segregation in New Jersey public schools. Junior High #2 shares Trenton’s local history with the next generation and shows us what can happen when you stand up for what’s right. This production will take place at Hedgepeth Williams Middle School.

Special Events

On September 25, Passage will be presenting a Writer's Roundtable where several of the season’s playwrights will be giving Audience members a behind-the-scenes look behind the creative process and creation of the shows this season.  The presentation will take place at 7PM--audience members can reserve tickets at passagetheatre.org.

Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical returns from the Upside Down with its off-Broadway premiere beginning this Thursday, August 5th at The Players Theatre (115 MacDougal St.), ahead of an official Opening Night set for Wednesday, August 11th, with the strictly limited engagement set to run through Sunday, September 5th.

Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical, which originally played two sold-out concert runs at Feinstein’s/54 Below, is a wild and irreverent send-up of the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things” and all its campy 80’s glory. Take a trip back to Hawkins, Indiana, 1983: when times were simpler, hair was bigger, and unsupervised children were getting snatched by inter-dimensional creatures. Join Mike, Eleven, Lucas, Dustin, and the whole Hawkins gang for a night of adventure, thrills, indulgent pop culture references, pubescent angst, heavy synth, poor parenting, convoluted love triangles, cheap effects, dancing monsters, and maybe, just maybe… justice for everyone’s favorite frumpy ginger, Barb Holland.

16) Third Rail Projects presents
RETURN THE MOON
August 11 – September 30, 2021

Third Rail Projects (Then She Fell, Ghostlight, The Grand Paradise) will present the World Premiere of RETURN THE MOON, conceived and directed by Zach Morris and created by Alberto Denis, Kristin Dwyer, Joshua Gonzales, Sean Hagerty, Justin Lynch, Zach Morris, Marissa Nielsen-Pincus, Tara O’Con, and Edward Rice. Previews begin August 11, live via Zoom. Opening is set for September 8.

RETURN THE MOON is a live performance created specifically for the Zoom platform which invites audience members to collectively construct a shared experience that is one part toast, one part ritual, and one part retelling of a very old story of how the Moon was lost and found again.  Matching decidedly analog tools of performance with the unique opportunities that the Zoom platform affords, RETURN THE MOON combines text, movement, cinematic visuals, and music. It also enfolds offerings from audience members to create a rumination on remembrance and recurrence, the interplay of shadow and light, and how a shared experience might linger and reverberate over the passage of time. The work also features an epistolary component; after the performance, every audience member is mailed a package that contains content and interactive artifacts from their shared event.

RETURN THE MOON runs one hour fifteen minutes for 60 audience members per performance. During the show, audience members are invited, but not obligated, to contribute guided input that shapes how the work unfolds. This experience is designed with audience comfort in mind and affords a range of opportunities where guests can choose if and when they wish to contribute.

RETURN THE MOON runs August 11- September 30, performance dates vary. Three ticket tiers are available: General admission at $42, Pay-it-Forward at $67, Subsidized at $15. The Pay-it-Forward tickets support Subsidized tickets. Preview tickets go on sale July 15, 2021 and the full run goes on sale August 6, 2021.
