Broadway Openings
Chicken & Biscuits - Starts Previews 9/23/21 Opening Night 10/10/21
CHICKEN & BISCUITS is a raucous family comedy so full of laughter and love, it’ll leave you begging for seconds. The Jenkins family is coming together to celebrate the life of their father—hopefully without killing each other! But any hopes for a peaceful reunion unravel when a family secret shows up at the funeral…
The Minutes - Starts Previews 3/2022 Opening Night 4/7/22
at Studio 54
The Minutes, the record-breaking hit production from Steppenwolf Theatre Company, takes a hard look at the inner workings of a city council meeting and the hypocrisy, greed and ambition that bubble to the surface when a newcomer to the small town of Big Cherry starts to ask the wrong questions. Why is someone on the council mysteriously missing? What happened to all those bicycles? Is there skullduggery afoot with the city’s finances? What’s the deal with the available parking space? What the F is going on with the Lincoln Smackdown? And why are the minutes from the last meeting being kept secret?
Off-Broadway Openings
A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet - Starts Previews 9/17/21 Opening Night 9/27/21
at the DR2 Theatre.
Two nobodies dream of writing one hit song for everybody, but their day job composing jingles for commercials isn’t the big break they hoped. That is, until they’re plucked from obscurity by a world-famous pop star named Regina Comet (if destiny had a child, it would be her) and she wants them to create an anthem for her supernova pipes... and her new perfume. They’re so close to the big-time they can smell it, but following your passion doesn’t always lead where you expect. Making a hit song can be a shit-show.

5) Save the Faison Firehouse Theatre
The Faison Firehouse Theatre theater, located at 6 Hancock Place in South Harlem, has served the community well for over two decades.
Developers are very interested in purchasing the site but will undoubtedly do what developers do – tear it down.
In 1997, TONY Award winner George Faison and his companion, Ted Schnugg, lovingly renovated this firehouse built in 1909. Since then, the pair have done yeoman-like work to create this Arts Center. But Ted died three years ago and running the operation solo must have been a real strain.
The Firehouse could continue to serve this community with an infusion of new energy (as well as a goodly amount of cash).
Mel Miller, of Musicals Tonight, is hoping to spur interest before the wrecking ball arrives. He does not see himself as an appropriate Artistic Director, but would like to act as the focal point for suggested solutions to the problem. He can be contacted here: musicalstonight@aol.com *********************************************************************

7) JACKIE HOFFMAN is
FRUMAH SARAH (WAITING IN THE WINGS)
Limited Run Off-Broadway Engagement Begins July 1
Imagination Hive with Spin Cycle and Nancy Manocherian’s the cell theatre (Kira Simring, Artistic Director) presents the Off-Broadway Premiere of E. Dale Smith’s FRUMA-SARAH (WAITING IN THE WINGS). Directed by Braden M. Burns and starring Emmy nominee Jackie Hoffman (Feud: Bette and Joan, The Bite, The Politician) and Kelly Kinsella, performances begin previews July 1 at the cell with opening set for July 8.
Weighed down by the reality of her current situation and yards of rented cheesecloth, aging community theater star Ariana Russo sits backstage awaiting her entrance as Fruma-Sarah, the screeching deceased wife of Lazer Wolf. Tethered to the fly system overhead, she prepares to navigate her hour-long exile to stage left alone when she meets Margo, a feisty substitute fly captain for the night. Set in real time, while a production of Fiddler on the Roof is happening onstage, the wait begins to wear on Ariana, exposing the deep cracks in her bombastic facade. This love letter to theater explores themes of isolation, being stuck in your situation, and what happens when you are no longer seen by the people around you. Sometimes to feel alive, you have to play a ghost.
FRUMA-SARAH (WAITING IN THE WINGS) runs July 1 - 25, Tuesday – Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 5pm & 8pm and Sunday at 4pm. Please note: no performance July 4. Running time is 75 minutes, no intermission. Patrons are required to show proof of vaccination upon arrival and follow all current city, state and theatrical union mandated Covid safety protocols. Nancy Manocherian’s the cell theatre is located at 338 West 23rd Street. Tickets are $35 - $57, available at www.SpinCycleNYC.com. Tickets are all general admission, with the least expensive tickets available on a first come, first served basis -- or pay a bit more and support the artists and organizations involved. *********************************************************************

13) Watch Lars Lubovitch
Timeless Male Duet
In celebration of NYC PRIDE, watch this free encore presentation of the enduring and timeless duet from Lar Lubvitch’s Concerto Six Twenty-Two featuring NYCB principal dancers, and partners in real-life, Adrian Danchig-Waring and Joseph Gordon from the 2020 Fall for Dance Festival—on demand through June 30.
In 1987, Lubovitch conceived and initiated “Dancing for Life,” the first-ever response to the AIDS crisis by the dance community, which united 13 different companies to raise money for AIDS care, research, and education. On the program was his duet from Concerto Six Twenty-Two.
Although men dancing together has existed in modern dance almost from the beginning, the duet brought a new freedom of expression to this concept. While the piece does not tell a literal story, it does indelibly portray men as caring and supportive of one another. In the mid-80s, this aspect gave the piece a special resonance in the face of the AIDS crisis.
