I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday - Only the Brave

What: Only the Brave

Where: Available online at vimeo.com/403297083

Who: 16 and Up Due to Subject Matter Involving War and Violence

Only the Brave is a musical regarding the true story of a group of soldiers preparing for the D-Day Landings as well as the people left behind supporting them on the homefront including their wives and a young resistance fighter. It is a very intense musical that will make you want to cry almost every minute although not always out of sadness. That is not to say that there are not any minutes of levity in the show, it would be hard to get through the 2 plus hours running time without it, but the majority of the show is fraught with an extreme sense of foreboding.  Accordingly, it can be a little hard to sit through at times. It is worth it to stick it out, however, because it's a beautiful stirring story.  The songs alone can make you want to cry. They are deeply moving and invoke a mix of melancholy, stoicism, and a sense of camaraderie. Individually, however,  they are not necessarily that memorable. There is also not a lot of variety in the songs. Most of them seem to be rousing anthems and/or soaring ballads and not much else. The show was recorded in 2016 at the Wales Millenium Centre and has been available online for some time. However,  with the recent celebration of the Memorial Day holiday, now it is particularly timely.
