I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday - Taylor-Butler House

What:
Taylor-Butler House

Where: 127 Kings Highway
              Middletown, NJ

Who: No specific age limit

The Taylor-Butler House is another historic home owned and operated by the Historical Society of Monmouth County, New Jersey. It is located next to Marlpit Hall and was owned by the same family. For more about Marlpit Hall, see our previous post Where-To-Go Wednesday: Marlpit Hall

Unlike Marlpit Hall and most other historic homes, the Taylor Butler House has neither been refurnished with original items from the home nor with similar items from the time period. In fact, it is mostly empty of furnishings and contains mostly artifacts found on the property, plus works of art related to the period. There are both permanent works of art and changing exhibits. At the time we visited, a temporary exhibit featured numerous beautifully designed, colorful quilts. However, that exhibit is allegedly ended.  In any case, anyone interested in colonial art and/or architecture should enjoy a visit to the Taylor-Butler House.

And that's our view. There is no fee to visit the Taylor-Butler House; however, to gain access, you must visit Marlpit Hall, and the docent on-site will open the home for you. The Taylor-Butler House is also open for rental for private events.  For more information, visit www.monmouthhistory.org/historic-houses. It is also recommended that if you are interested in visiting, you contact volunteer@monmouthhistory.org to check on the dates and hours when Marlpit Hall will be open as dates and hours may vary, it may not be open at all times of the year, and occasionally, when the building is allegedly supposed to be open for visits, no one is there.

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
