I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Still More Theater Saturday - Reunions

We received complimentary tickets to Reunions for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Reunions

Where: City Center/Stage II
             131 W. 55th St.
              New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 13 and Up Due to Mature Themes

When: Through December 21, 2025

The new musical Reunions is actually two musicals in one. The first part is based on the play The Twelve-Pound Look by JM Barrie, the second is based on A Sunny Morning by Spanish playwright Quintero Brothers. Both plays involve couples unexpectedly reuniting after a long period of time, but other than that, they are extremely diverse.

Although the basic setup of each individual story is somewhat surprising and intriguing, the follow-through of the stories is less interesting and does not feel like enough to carry a whole show. The score doesn't help as the songs are mostly uninteresting and sound the same. There is one duet, "The Usual Thing,"  between the characters of Lady Sims and Kate in the first part of the show that is kind of fun, however.

The performances are mostly good. Chilina Kennedy and Chip Zien stand out in particular. Kennedy in The Twelve Pound Look, is as sharp as nails in her performance as a woman ahead of her time, fiesty,  independent, and unwilling to be tied down to a life she doesn't want. Zien, who was robbed of a Tony nomination in 2022's underrated Harmony, shines as both a manservant in the first part and a cantankerous elderly gentleman confronting his past in the second. They are the main reasons to see this show.
