This is Government is a show about a trio of government employees locked down in their office together for hours due to a bomb threat. The show is incredibly timely and darkly funny, but also extremely heartbreaking. In fact, it may be triggering for some people who have already lost faith in our political system.
Still, the show is well written, and the performances are all quite good. Kleo Mitrokostas as Emi, Charles Hsu as Tip, and Vann Dukes as Kaz play off each other nicely and have a nice rapport, particularly Mitrokostas and Hsu. Susan Lynskey as Stevie doesn't really interact with the other three; she appears only in phone conversations, but her performance is absolutely gut-wrenching.
This is not always an easy show to watch. However, it does shine a light on some important truths about our government and those we elect. Its slightly hopeful ending is not only a resolution for its characters but a call to action for the audience. It reminds us that the only way to try to change things is to get involved.
And that's our view. For more about This is Government or to purchase tickets, visit www.59e59.org/shows/show-detail/this-is-government.
