Covenhoven House is one of the historic houses of Monmouth County, NJ. The house was commandeered by the British and used as a headquarters for General Clinton and his soldiers during the Revolutionary War. Visit the house to learn about Mrs. Covenhoven's bravery and how she was able to save her home even though many of the other houses in the area were destroyed. Knowledgeable docents are on site and available to tell you all about it and more. You can also learn more about Elizabeth Covenhoven, General Clinton, and more people associated with the home, including some of the slaves who lived on the property. The furniture and other items you will see there may not be original to the house, but they are authentic to the time.
And that's our view. Covenhoven House is open Fridays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. However, it may not be open during all seasons. Therefore, it is best to double-check when planning a visit. You can check the website at www.monmouthhistory.org, but it is also best to contact volunteer@monmouthhistory.org to confirm, as Monmouth County's historic houses are not always open when they are allegedly supposed to be.
Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
