This is a drama about two families. When the son of one gets engaged to the daughter of the other, long-held secrets are revealed, affecting them all. This is a somewhat absorbing story filled with surprising twists and turns.
Many of the characters seem underdeveloped, however. The stepsister of the bride-to-be, for example, exists merely to be the bride-to-be's nemesis, but that is the sole aspect of her character, and you learn nothing else about her. You don't even find out why they hate each other so much, except that their parents married each other, but that reason is very clichéd and vague.
Also, some of the secondary characters outshine the primary characters. The standout character is the irascible but hot-to-trot grandmother. This is due to both the way the character is written and the way she is portrayed.
The ending is underwhelming. Some aspects of the story are too easily resolved; others are left feeling unfinished. Either way, it is unsatisfying.
And that's our view. This show was part of the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival, which runs through August 17, 2025. For more about the festival or to purchase tickets to one of the remaining shows, go to www.broadwayboundfest.com
Tune in tomorrow for this week's Sunday Scoop.
