Despite the minimal costumes and props and the set that resembles a geometric puzzle more than a location, Have You Met Jane Goodall and Her Mother? is a remarkably engaging play. Even the constant breaking out of character to describe rather than show what is happening or provide background information is less a distraction than an enhancement of the charm of this delightful show. While the gist of the story which covers Jane Goodall's initial arrival in Africa to study chimpanzees along with her chaperone, her mother, through her first real breakthrough is true, some events and characters were made up for the show.
The five-member cast gels very nicely. They are all equally enjoyable in their individual roles. Even the chimpanzees get into the action through the skillful use of shadow puppets and a more lifelike puppet similar to some of those used in The Lion King. The entire show is quite captivating, and you won't want to miss it!
