I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

3) Last Call

For half a century, American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein and Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan were the world's most celebrated figures in classical music – and the fiercest of rivals. Their influence transcended music into popular culture, politics, and almost every facet of the modern landscape. Late in their lives these titans of classical music unexpectedly crossed paths one last time at the Sacher Hotel in Vienna. Inspired by true events, Last Call brings us to this meeting as both men struggle to find common ground through their music and their lives over one last drink. The play mixes storytelling and music, giving audience members a glimpse into the complex minds of these two music titans.

4) Lists of Promises

Inspired by When God was a Woman by Merlin Stone and created for the stage by Ildiko Nemeth and Lisa Giobbi, this performance piece, structured through classic theater and ungrounded aerial movement elements, traces the lives of a group of women from different eras and socio-political circumstances, through the lens of historical records and lists from mundane to extraordinary.

Infused with humor throughout and presented in a series of interconnected vignettes amalgamating daily life and imaginative thinking, the nine-woman cast embodies individual experiences in order to explore their community and shared consciousness. With an index of historical texts and anecdotes, Lists of Promise questions the expectations and demands made of women by highlighting absurd, tragic, and ironic realities.

An untold story. An unimaginable circumstance. A brave new play. Inspired by a true story, this groundbreaking new play pushes the boundaries of what it means to get stuck in the present. In Maybe Tomorrow, Gail and Ben’s nearly ten year relationship appears to be thriving: a new job, a new city, and a baby boy on the way. But as the challenges of reality come to light, they must navigate the complexities of a relationship tested by time. In desperate need of a break, Gail retreats to her pause room; the bathroom of their mobile home. As the outside world slowly slips away from her, we are left to wonder: was it ever there to begin with?

13) IN MY OWN LITTLE CORNER

ANNOUNCES LIVE CAPTURE OF THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED PRODUCTION THAT NORMALIZES CONVERSATIONS AROUND MENTAL ILLNESS

THE FILMED PERFORMANCE WILL BE ON
SUNDAY, MARCH 16th AT 3:00PM
THE RIVERSIDE THEATER

An upcoming encore performance and live capture of Broadway, film, and television actress Chryssie Whitehead’s In My Own Little Corner: My Moods, My Mom & Me, a striking and deeply personal, but widely relatable autobiographical play with music that chronicles the actress and her late mother’s shared stories of addressing (and not addressing) mental illness. Directed by Bryan Knowlton, with musical direction by Nick Wilders, the filmed performance will take place on Sunday, March 16th at 3:00PM at The Riverside Theatre. The running time is 70 minutes, followed by a brief break and a 30-minute post-show talk back (which will also be filmed). Audience members are invited to stay for a celebration featuring DJ Marla after the show. www.imolctheshow.com

In My Own Little Corner: My Moods, My Mom & Me, unravels Veteran stage and film actress, Chryssie Whitehead’s diagnosis with bipolar disorder at the age of 38, while simultaneously making peace with the passing of her mother. Parts comedy, tragedy, and love story, it’s a strikingly honest look at the generational patterns and behaviors interwoven between a mother and her daughter as they lived out vastly different lives with regards to their mental health. IMOLC seeks to stop the stigma behind the still rarely discussed disorder and normalize conversations around mental health, so people feel less shocked or ashamed upon diagnosis or when someone they love is diagnosed. After each performance, Chryssie and a licensed mental health professional do a talkback unpacking the show and her diagnosis to give the audience a chance to debrief in a safe and affirming space. The goal of the filmed live capture is to reach a much broader audience than just theater goers alone to spread the show's mission to the masses.

14) Tiny Monsters Find a New Home at Flushing Town Hall in a Heartwarming Performance for Families

On Saturday, March 15, Flushing Town Hall welcomes The Gottabees for a whimsical and heartwarming performance of “Go Home Tiny Monster” for families with young children.

Told entirely without words, this show features The Gottabees’ signature mix of puppetry, live music, physical theater, and joyously absurd silliness.

After a sudden storm, Sylvie and her loving family of homespun yarn creatures find themselves in need of a new home. Luckily, they have an audience full of people who can help them! Go Home Tiny Monster is a wildly creative theatrical ode to a community's generosity.

The show was inspired by true events as four members of The Gottabees were displaced from their homes a few years ago (two by fire and two by weather-related damage). This show captures their shared experiences.

The Gottabees use their seemingly silly, magical, illogical puppet theater style to talk with children and families about what it’s like not to have a home. They encourage the audience to help build a home for the characters on stage, together as a community. The play also wants to inspire families to get involved in their communities to help those displaced from their homes.

Prior to the 2:15 PM performance, ticket holders are invited to a 1:00 PM workshop to make their own yarn monsters. The workshop is free with a ticket purchase to the performance.

The opening of Maritime City and the reopening of the A.A. Thomson & Co. building will be accompanied by a range of dynamic public programs designed to invite visitors of all ages to make a deeper connection to New York’s rich maritime heritage.

Maritime City | Beginning March 12, 2025

Tickets Now Available | Wednesday–Sunday | 11am–5pm | 213 Water Street

Pre-book your admission tickets today for Maritime City, a highly-anticipated exhibition that highlights how New York City, as we know it today, arose from the sea. Throughout the extensive three-floor exhibition, objects on view underscore how the city’s identity as a global capital of culture and finance is rooted in its origins as a seaport.

As you walk through 540 deliberately-selected objects from the collections and archives of the Seaport Museum, you will discover how the waterways, people, and industries of the Greater New York area—including all the boroughs, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley—led to the creation of a truly diverse city. By sharing the material culture of New York and its people, the objects on display highlight stories of the working class people employed by ships, shipping lines, and other local industries throughout history, as well as the emigrant workers and immigrant families that came through the port as their first stop in America.

In Maritime City, you will experience a celebration of communities that have come together to grow New York. For four centuries, the port of New York has connected people to the world through the exchange of goods, ideas, languages, and cultures. Indigenous Lenape people were the first stewards of the waterways, creating trade routes connecting Manahatta to the sea. In the 17th-century European colonists, enslaved Africans, and migrants built on this foundation to give birth to a restless and ambitious city. Later waves of immigration, would grow a world capital formed by its oceanic links to the world. Just as the history of New York is woven from many stories, Maritime City employs artifacts to present a tapestry of a global metropolis shaped by the sea. The South Street Seaport Museum interprets these origins, a museum for a maritime city.
