Welcome to the Rain Drops on Roses Giveaway Hop
hosted by Mama the Fox
If you enjoy books that retell classic stories in a more modern way, you may enjoy Jeannette Watts' book, A Women's Persuasion. This book is an updated
version of Jane Austen's Persuasion In this version, the two main
characters are both women.
Here the pair met in college. Due to pressure from her family and worry
that a relationship with Freddie would adversely affect Freddie's military
career, Anne broke it off with her. None of this is a spoiler since it all
takes place before the beginning of the book. The book takes place when they
run into each other again years later. Anne has never really gotten over
Freddie, but it doesn't seem as though Freddie feels the same way. Thus,
picking up where they left off doesn't seem likely, but they still keep
running into each other.
The book is sweet and feels old-fashioned even though it is set in the
current day. There is plenty of romance not just that between Anne and
Freddie although a lot of the romance takes place off the page. It is short
and sweet and quick to read.

I would always have said my favorite The Great Gatsby, until last year when I read Beautiful Little Fools by Jillian Cantor. Told from the point of view of the women in the novel. I loved it! Now I think I'd love to read a retelling of Hamlet...from poor Ophelia's point of view as she descends into madness.
ReplyDeleteThat great Gatsby book sounds great. I will have to check into and your Hamlet idea sounds great too. Thanks for visiting Says Me Says Mom and your comment.
DeleteFrankenstein from the monster's point of view.
ReplyDeleteThey would be interesting. My daughter actually recently did a project related to that for school. Thanks for visiting Says Me Says Mom and for your comment.
