I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

1) Hymn

Hymn is the story about two brothers - Benny and Gil. Benny is a loner anchored by his wife and children. Gil longs to fulfill his potential. They form a deep bond. But as cracks appear in their fragile lives, they start to realize that true courage comes in different forms...while asking exactly what it takes to be a good father, brother or son. Hymn is a work of celebration amid pain, exploring the joys and struggles of masculinity reflected in a soundtrack of beloved musical moments.

The two brothers build a relationship, using their shared love of music to bridge their separate childhoods. The play becomes a soundtrack to their coming of age, featuring soul and hip hop hits from the '70s, '80s, and '90s, performed live by the actors onstage, and led by Music Director Will Brock.

Louis Bluver Theatre (The Theatres at the Drake, 302 S. Hicks St.)

2) Cellino v. Barnes

Cellino v. Barnes: The Play tells the story of two men whose conflicting ideas of success lead them to jealousy, resentment, and heated debate over which shade of white the office toilets should be. A dangerous mix of friendship and business ignited a business that would change the New York skyline forever. The show spotlights them exploiting each other’s skill sets and shortcomings to create billions in revenue, a toxic work environment, and the most haunting jingle we’ve ever laid ears on. Discover the lies, the backstabbing, and which one is the bald one at New York's #1 comedic play in the country about New York injury attorneys!

(20 West 23rd St.)

3) Daughter of The Wicked

DAUGHTER OF THE WICKED tells the story of Shanit Keter Schwartz returning to her homeland in search of her missing sister, a victim of the Yemenite Children Affair. She looks back at her upbringing as a Yemenite Jewish girl in the newly formed country of Israel, paying special tribute to her Kabbalistic mystical Rabbi father, as she comes to terms with her tumultuous past. This riveting new play features an original soundscape of authentic Yemenite tin drums and flutes composed by Israeli composer Lilo Fedida to transport us from the sands of Yemen to the tin huts of the Israeli settlement camps to life in the projects. James Newton Howard's cello composition will support the Kabbalistic texts that guide audiences through the story.

4) The Diamond

The Diamond merges the themes, characters and narrative ideas featured in the trilogy, which included: Las Mariposas (2018), which focused on the journey of immigrant mothers and children; Somos Más (2019), which told the story of immigrants who spark a joyful revolution amidst a dystopia where assimilation is required; and, Doña Mañana (2021), which imagined a future where the immigrants from Somos Más have brought liberation to their home.

This play was developed by immigrant artists and stars a majority-immigrant cast.

5) Muse

Muse is an alluring tale of a passionate love affair between Sheila, a struggling artist, and Mathias, an aging dancer. When Sheila invites Mathias to sit for her, an unbridled artistic fire is released, transforming their lives and the lives of their families, forever altering the course of their destinies. This world premiere play takes a fresh look at toxic masculinity and scrutinizes the moral implications of art when tied to obscenity. Above all, the play examines the choices we make in life and the consequences they bring.

Robin & Me: My Little Spark Of Madness is an autobiographical play that follows Dave as he becomes multiple characters and whimsically relives hilarious and difficult life moments, including the times when his father dropped the ball and Robin stepped in to get him through it. But how long will it take before Dave learns how to do it without Robin's help?

When Tess goes on air to insult Sam’s work, the two start an epically public feud in their respective mediums. The feud turns to romance but not to harmony, in a delightful battle of the sexes between two outsized egos. The Kander and Ebb score features “Sometimes a Day Goes By,” “I Wrote the Book” and “The Grass is Always Greener.”

Based on the landmark photo memoir by Larry Sultan, adapted to the stage by Sharr White, starring Nathan LaneZoë Wanamaker, and Danny Burstein, and staged by award-winning director Bartlett Sher, PICTURES FROM HOME evokes memories of childhood, parenthood, and the hard-won wisdom that comes with both. 10) Stranger Sings

Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical is the hit Off-Broadway musical that brings everyone’s favorite streaming series to hilariously-twisted life on stage. With book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Hogue, Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical is a wild and irreverent send-up of the hit Netflix series "Stranger Things" and all its campy '80s glory. Take a trip back to Hawkins, Indiana, 1983: when times were simpler, hair was bigger, and unsupervised children were getting snatched by inter-dimensional creatures. Join Mike, Eleven, Lucas, Dustin, and the whole Hawkins gang for a night of adventure, thrills, pubescent angst, heavy synth, poor parenting, convoluted love triangles, cheap effects, dancing monsters, and maybe, just maybe... justice for everyone's favorite missing ginger, Barb Holland.

Playhouse 46 at St. Luke's (308 W. 46th St.)

11) Endgame

Endgame, Nobel Prize-winning playwright Samuel Beckett's (1906-1989) favorite play, is a tragicomedy of epic proportions. Written in a macabre intensity of mood, it represents the playwright's fierce declaration of oblivion in a world populated with its last survivors. The play, about the end of everything, moves inexorably to its own conclusion, with its own humor bursting out of the bounds of Beckett's dark account of the Earth's last whimper.

Endgame tells the story of Hamm (John Douglas Thompson), who is reduced to living in one room, in which he sits, blind and chair bound. His only escape from his solitary world is the company of his aging, legless parents (Joe Grifasi and Patrice Johnson Chevannes), who live in garbage bins, and his shuffling servant, Clov (Bill Irwin), who is at his beck and call, and who, like a dog, comes when whistled for. The only thing left for Hamm is to wait for the inevitable end.

A pinnacle of Beckett’s characteristic raw minimalism, Endgame is a pure and devastating distillation of the human essence in the face of approaching death. “Nothing is funnier than unhappiness” invokes Nell, which summarizes the tragicomic nature of this timeless play.

13) New PBS Performing Arts Series, NEXT AT THE KENNEDY CENTER “Ballet Hispánico’s Doña Perón,” Features Exploration of Eva Perón’s Life and Diverging Legacies

Emotional Ballet Hispánico Performance of Eva’s “Rags-to-Riches” Journey Premieres on PBS
Friday, April 14, 10-11:30 p.m. ET

PBS today announced that the next installment of NEXT AT THE KENNEDY CENTER, a series from the pubcaster’s multi-year collaboration with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will feature Ballet Hispánico’s explosive portrait of Eva “Evita” Perón – one of the most captivating and controversial women in Argentinian history. Anchored by a riveting Ballet Hispánico performance – choreographed by the highly sought-after and award-winning Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and set to music by composer Peter Salem at the Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall – the special explores Eva’s rags-to-riches journey from illegitimate daughter to dancehall performer, acclaimed radio personality to Argentina’s First Lady, and her untimely death in her early thirties. NEXT AT THE KENNEDY CENTER “Ballet Hispánico’s Doña Perón” premieres Friday, April 14 at 10-11:30 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS, PBS.org, and the PBS app

Ballet Hispánico’s Dandara Veiga (Eva “Evita” Perón), Chris Bloom (Juan Perón), and the company’s ensemble bring Doña Perón’s inner conflict and the extremes of power and powerlessness in life to light. Loved by Juan Peron but rejected by the aristocracy, Eva was dedicated to justice yet part of a regime with fascist tendencies. Her work as an activist and advocate for Argentina's women and working class raised skepticism as she indulged in the opulence of a high-class life. Was she a voice for the people, or a deceitful actress?

Through interviews with performers and Ballet Hispanico’s creative team, NEXT AT THE KENNEDY CENTER “Ballet Hispánico’s Doña Perón” explores the significance of Doña Perón and the process behind its conception and creation. A story most widely known to be associated with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway musical, Ballet Hispánico – led by Artistic Director and CEO Eduardo Vilaro – forged a partnership with Lopez Ochoa to provide the opportunity for creative leaders with Latin heritage to reclaim the story’s narrative and present its own interpretation of the historical icon.

Eddie Palmieri and His Salsa Orchestra

Saturday, April 15 at 8 pm

in the Matthews Theatre

BONUS EVENT!  Free Salsa Workshop starting at 7 pm in the lobby, hosted by Princeton University’s Más Flow
RSVP to rsvp@mccarter.org

Grammy award-winning pianist, bandleader, arranger, and composer Eddie Palmieri has been at the forefront of salsa and Latin jazz for most of his life. Born to Puerto Rican parents in the South Bronx, by the age of 11 Palmieri had already performed at Carnegie Hall. In 1961 his band La Perfecta revolutionized both jazz and Latin orchestras by swapping out trumpets in favor of trombones for his front line, innovating a new sound that wove American jazz into Afro-Caribbean rhythms, laying the foundation for the New York salsa sound. His 1971 record with his elder brother Charlie as Harlem River Drive initially flew under the radar but has since been minted as an underground Latin funk classic, a socially conscious album that spoke to the inequality experienced in El Barrio, Spanish Harlem.  Palmieri brings his salsa orchestra to McCarter, performing his greatest hits from a career spanning more than six decades.

Niels Gade: Symphony No. 1, On Sjøland’s Fair Plains
Artwork from the exhibition Beyond the Light: Identity and Place in Nineteenth-Century Danish Art
The Danish Golden Age, from 1816 until the late 1840s, was the period when Denmark emerged from its imperial traditions as a modern constitutional democracy. In art, the Golden Age was marked by a focus on the ideal Danish landscape and its northern light. In music, celebrated Danish composer Niels Gade was just beginning his career. His 1842 Symphony No. 1, On Sjøland’s Fair Plains, which incorporates themes from several Danish folk songs, caught the attention of Felix Mendelssohn, sparking a close friendship between the two musical giants.

Beyond the Light: Identity and Place in Nineteenth-Century Danish Art will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art through April 16, 2023.

Tickets priced at $30, $40, and $50; all tickets include same-day museum admission. Tickets may be purchased online here, by calling The Met at 212.570.3949, or at The Great Hall box office at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Perfect for anyone who is new to aerials, emphasizing mastery of fundamental movements. You’re encouraged to move into a beginner class as soon as you feel ready to, but are welcome to stay in Intro as long as you like.
