Archie's Weird Parody is definitely subversive but not any more so than the TV series, Riverdale. In fact, the show could have been called Riverdale the musical because most of what happens in the show seems to be ripped right out of the TV series. The main difference is in the character of Jughead who basically spends the whole show having an existential crisis.
Of course, it was not always easy to follow exactly what was going on in the show because there were issues with the sound which did not carry well to the back of the auditorium. Also at times, the band drowned out the singing. None of what could be heard of the songs really stuck in the head.
The acting was for the most part good. The casting of Max Raymond in particular as Archie was inspired as he looks like he literally could have walked off the pages of the comic book.
And that's our view. Tune in Sunday for this week's Sunday Scoop.
