I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday - Books: Her Mothers Lies & Movie: A Man Called Otto

We may have been given complimentary copies and/or access for review purposes to any products, and/or visual or audio media mentioned below. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books: Her Mother's Lies

Today we are talking about Her Mother's Lies by Lisa Timoney. Bonnie is a woman trying to run from her tragic past. Alice is a woman drowning in debt and desperately trying to hold onto her daughter, Laura, who is forced to put her own artistic dreams on hold to help out her family. When Bonnie comes to work for the family business and she and Laura form a bond, Alice is insanely jealous and unbeknownst to her, Bonnie has a secret that can rock her world.

This book is extremely predictable. You pretty much know exactly where it is heading the entire time. However, getting there takes an extraordinarily annoying amount of time as the book moves along at a snail's pace. Also, the characters can be a bit too much at times. Alice is too overbearing and interested in controlling her daughter's life, and Bonnie can be annoyingly hard on herself and consumed with her past. The least annoying character is Laura, a loyal daughter and a good friend who deserves a chance to live the life she wants. Although the gist of the story is interesting it would be better if it was less predictable and slow and the characters were less annoying.

Movies: A Man Called Otto

Today we are recommending A Man Called Otto. Tom Hanks gives another incredible performance in the role of a grumpy old man with a hidden heart of gold who is drawn out of his loneliness and despair by his new neighbors. On the whole, the performances, including Tom Hanks' son Truman in the role of his character as a young man,  are terrific all around in this delightful film. Although it can be dark at times and is not really appropriate for young children, on the whole, it is full of plenty of humor and heart. If you like cute kids, cats, dogs, and/or found family you will especially enjoy this extremely commendable film.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
