The Broadway Education Alliance, Inc. is proud to announce that CAMP BROADWAY®, Broadway’s Original Destination for Theater-loving kids, is returning to New York City on July 10-14, 2023, with its signature programs MAINSTAGE (ages 10-17) and SHINING STARS (ages 7-9) Founded in 1995, CAMP BROADWAY provides a safe and enriching environment for children and teens from all backgrounds and skill levels to build confidence, hone presentation skills and discover their unique talents-on and off stage. Taught by a team of professional director/choreographers and music directors and held at Pearl Studios near the Broadway theatre district, CAMP BROADWAY’s MAINSTAGE features 40-hours of vocal performance, dancing, acting, stage craft and masterclasses with special guests culminating in a Family Finale Showcase at New York’s famed Symphony Space. 3) CENTENARY STAGE COMPANY NOW ACCEPTING REGISTRATION FOR SPRING 2023 AUDITION WORKSHOP
Centenary Stage Company is offering an Audition Workshop from 4:00 - 5:40 pm on Fridays from January 13 through April 28 to be taught by Carl Wallnau for the 2023 Spring Semester.
The Audition Workshop covers the business side of theatre from headshots to agents, finding material, dealing with cold readings, commercial techniques, and interviews. Students will work on finding and performing appropriate monologues for professional auditions. The cost of the 15-week course is $250.00 per registrant. This workshop is suitable for amateur and experienced actors.
Carl Wallnau is the chair of the Centenary University Theatre department and the Artistic Director for Centenary Stage Company. Wallnau has many credits including Broadway, off-Broadway, and has been seen in many CSC productions including the 2020 and 2021 productions of A Christmas Carol by Stephen Temperley and The Sunshine Boys by Neil Simon.

Centenary Stage Company will be holding auditions for their upcoming production of The Ladykillers by Graham Linehan. A classic, dark comedy. A sweet little old lady, alone in her house, is pitted against a gang of criminal misfits who will stop at nothing. Posing as amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang rent rooms in the lopsided house of sweet but strict Mrs. Wilberforce. The villains plot to involve her, unwittingly, in Marcus' brilliantly conceived heist job. The police are left stumped, but Mrs. Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse and Marcus concludes there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet. With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs. Wilberforce is alone with five desperate men. But who will be forced to face the music?

Trumpeter, Dominick Farinacci, has performed in more than 120 cities in 14 countries around the world and was named the very first Global Ambassador to Jazz at the Lincoln Center by Wynton Marsalis. He graduated from The Julliard School in 2005 and launched his career in Japan with a prolific run of eight albums, later releasing four more globally. Farinacci works to further integrate music into communities around the world in culturally collaborative ways, and has been a featured guest on ABC’s Good Morning America and is a TED speaker.His most recent recording “Short Stories” is produced by four-time Grammy Award winning producer, Tommy Lipuma. 6) Online Applications Open for the 2023 Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes
The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes announces the launch of its 2023 awards. The online application system is now open. Submissions are due by April 15th and the winners will be announced in September. The Barron Prize celebrates inspiring, public-spirited young people from across the U.S. and Canada. Established in 2001 by author T. A. Barron, the Barron Prize annually honors 25 outstanding young leaders ages 8 to 18 who have made a significant positive difference to people and the environment. Fifteen top winners each receive $10,000 to support their service work or higher education.

Like the Kardashians, America’s Top Psychic Medium Matt Fraser’s TV show is switching to streaming on Facebook Watch to reach a new audience.
Fraser who was star of the hit television series Meet the Frasers on E! Entertainment, has moved and rebooted his television series now titled ‘The Frasers Plus One’ premiered in an all new special on Facebook Watch premiering on January 6, 2023.
The Show opens with the “the world stopped, everything stopped and our series was taken away from us”. Fraser was referring to his E! Entertainment TV series that was shut down after one season due to the pandemic.

Monday, January 23rd + Thursday, January 26th: Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter, Ondara, hails from Nairobi but calls Minneapolis home. Inspired by his musical hero, Bob Dylan, he migrated to the States to pursue his dream of writing and performing American alternative-rock.
Ondara’s recently released concept album, Spanish Villager No. 3, follows his 2020 sophomore album, Folk N’ Roll Vol 1: Tales of Isolation, and 2019 debut album, Tales of America. Ondara originally penned Spanish Villager as a short story, which evolved into a graphic novel before turning into an album. His unique experiences as an immigrant inspire his songwriting, which he has performed at concerts and festivals across the U.S. and Europe.

In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company established a new dance institute through Zoom, The Bridge. Now, classes are also being offered in person. The Institute’s aim is to bring together dancers, choreographers and directors around the world to experience the master teachers of color whose practices are embedded in the community and are focused on advancing the art of dance that transforms the personal, environmental and metaphysical spaces. The Bridge is now hybrid, with special classes being offered simultaneously in-person and online. These classes are aimed at professional dancers, and interested participants can register here for the live, in-person experience.
As a dance institute, The Bridge will invite world renowned as well as up and coming dancers and choreographers to come to guest teach the class. Advanced/Intermediate level professional or pre-professional dancers who are looking to explore beyond their own boundaries and looking for new dance experiences are encouraged to participate. The core program is based on Nai-Ni Chen’s Kinetic Spiral, which is a cross-cultural dance vocabulary that integrates the Chinese martial arts philosophy in TaiChi with contemporary dance practices she studied in America. Guest artists will cover a wide range of folk and classical dance styles.

Embrace the Yin and Yang through Tai Chi, a gentle exercise that helps you to move with focus and purpose. We will begin the class with a Qi Gong exercise called the 8 Section Brocade which is one of the most ancient forms of Qi Gong known in China. After that we will do the simplified 8 movement Tai Chi. No experience needed.

Nai-Ni Chen's signature technique is based on the principle of ever-changing universal forces of Yin and Yang to cultivate the dancer’s vital energy Chi (Qi) allowing the dancer to achieve higher performance with less effort. By focusing on breathing and images, Kinetic Spiral also balances the spiritual, mental and physical energy of the dancer. The Kinetic Spiral Technique forms the foundation of Nai-Ni Chen’s style of cross-cultural movement and embodies her efforts to work at the intersection of culture and race, advocating for equity with grace and power.

The exercises pull rhythms from Cuban, Kathak, Flamenco, Turkish Roman and Morrocan Guedra. The dancer makes polyrhythms using claps, stomps and your voice to better embody different rhythms. Katy will then teach her choreography containing moves from specific styles of dance. The technique of each respective cultural dance form is explained and how to transition from one to another.

Simon, today announced that his hit show about transformative love, The Actual Dance, will return to APAP 2023 (taking place at The Midtown Hilton Hotel, 1335 Avenue of the Americas) this January, as the annual conference resumes in-person performances for the first time in over three years. The Actual Dance is told through the eyes and heart of a husband as he struggles with what everyone expects to be his wife Susan’s losing battle to breast cancer. There are two versions of the production. Version 1 stars Simon is directed by Gabrielle Maisels and features music by Eli Katz. Applications must be for pieces up to nine minutes (group performances), or up to six minutes (solos and duets). Each choreographer or company may submit up to two applications for consideration. Each application requires a separate, completed application form and non-refundable application fee.
The four-day Festival will feature over 70 dancemakers from the New York Metro area and from across the country, selected by a panel of distinguished presenters and dance artists. White Wave’s mission is to act as a potent stimulus to expand the horizons of dance by producing dance concerts, festivals, residencies, and educational activities. White Wave provides dancemakers an opportunity to congregate, create, and present new works on prestigious stages to the discerning NYC audience.

Works & Process presents the Underground Uptown Dance Festival, a festival of commissioned street and social dances taking place in the Guggenheim’s subterranean Frank Lloyd Wright-designed theater from January 12-17, 2023.
Rare in the field of dance, let alone in the creators' traditions, beyond presenting fee, all projects will have received longitudinal support. With some spanning four years and across multiple residencies, Works & Process will have provided living wage fees of $1,050 per week, 24/7 devoted studio access, adjacent housing, access to health care insurance enrollment, performance fees, and iterative performance opportunities. Inspired by the circular architecture of the Guggenheim, the cyphers prevalent in street dance, and social environments where these performing art traditions were germinated, the works being presented endeavor to weave audiences and artists together. A living archive of five generations of New York City club dancers, UNDERSCORED is a multi-faceted project rooted in the intergenerational stories and memories of NYC underground club heads. Commissioned by Works & Process and created by the dancers of Ephrat Asherie Dance and NYC club legends ranging in age from 27 to 79, UNDERSCORED is a collaboration that celebrates and explores the ever-changing physical and musical landscape of New York’s underground dance community. Building on the intergenerational transference of knowledge and culturally reflective movement that happens night after night on dance floors across the city, UNDERSCORED shares lived experiences, stories, and vibes from seminal parties, including David Mancuso’s the Loft, Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage and Timmy Regisford’s Shelter and the experiences of legends Archie Burnett, Michele Saunders, and Brahms “Bravo” LaFortune.
Tap, percussive dance, samba, house, and live music come together in I Didn’t Come to Stay, commissioned by Works & Process and described by the New York Times as “An unforced crowd-pleaser, original and true to itself.” Brazilian tap dancer and choreographer Leonardo Sandoval and bassist and composer Gregory Richardson lead eight dancers and a five-piece band in a performance that explores tap’s lineage and connections to other Afrodiasporic forms. Together the pair embrace shared roots across the diaspora and reflect on racial and cultural identity, while also celebrating the joy, strength, depth, and virtuosity of Black dance and music.
