I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Chris, a long-time fan of Lonnie’s musicianship, is adamant that a collaboration between the two will reignite Lonnie’s career. Lonnie, who is pessimistic about the current demand for Blues, refuses the offer and seems to be more focused on his duties in the Benjamin Franklin Hotel. Ultimately, the pair bond over their love of music, and find common ground amongst the chords and lyrics.

F*CK the 7th Grade

An adolescent romance, a brief rise to pop stardom, a queer musical memoir (about how we’ll never get out of middle school) conceived by award-winning singer-songwriter Jill Sobule – whose 1990s hits include “Supermodel” and the original “I Kissed a Girl.”

Time travel back to the 70s as Jill Sobule, with the help of her middle school band, weaves a melodic tale about surviving 7th grade to become the first pop music artist to pen the first openly Queer song that landed on the Billboard Top 20. Jill guides the audience through the inner turmoil of pre-pubescence, the elation of getting a record deal, and the frustration and disheartening politics of dealing with the recording industry as a Queer artist. Can she ultimately embrace the song that made her a household name?

Last Gasp,a Recalibration

In Last Gasp, A Recalibration, Peggy Shaw and Lois Weaver recalibrate demise: the demise of their aging bodies, our civil conversations, and a sustainable planet. Landing somewhere between the realms of the live and the virtual, present and absent, between staying home and venturing out, the piece combines spoken word, movement and Zoom technology to respond to the world we now find ourselves in.

In early 2020, these two icons of lesbian-feminist theatre set out to present Last Gasp, a live performance questioning demise: the demise of aging bodies, civil conversations, and a sustainable planet. The pandemic arrived and knocked the breath out of us, as did a period of civil unrest that marched under the banner of ‘I can’t breathe.’ The ironies were not lost as the duo locked down, stayed in and continued their investigations resulting in a Zoom recording, Last Gasp WFH.

Now almost two years later, Last Gasp: A Recalibration gathers us in the same room but not as the same people. Reworking Last Gasp WFH for the physical stage, Shaw and Weaver unpick what it means to be in a theatre, and what it means to perform. With episodes entitled ‘The Trump in Me’ and ‘How to Set a Table in an Emergency’, the legendary performance duo brings us together to recalibrate - we are not coming to an end but finding strategies for moving on.

At The Drama Book Shop (266 West 39th Street)

The Drama Book Shop announced today a reading, discussion and signing for Tony Award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt’s new book, Transforming Space Over Time: Set Design and Visual Storytelling with Broadway’s Legendary Directors. Hosted by Peabody Award-winning broadcaster, director, and designer Elliott Forrest, Boritt will be joined in conversation with two of his collaborators on the book, legendary Tony Award-winning directors James Lapine and Susan Stroman.

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 11 at 7:00pm at The Drama Book Shop (266 West 39th Street). Tickets are $35 and available to purchase at dramabookshop.com, and include entrance to the event and a copy of Transforming Space Over Time. It is recommended that guests wear a mask inside. No merchandise, photos or other souvenirs will be allowed to be signed.

Transforming Space Over Time tells the stories of six diverse productions: five on Broadway and one Off-Broadway. Tony Award–winning set designer Beowulf Boritt begins with the moment he was offered each job and takes readers through the conceptual development of a set, the challenges of its physical creation, and the intense process of readying it for the stage. Theater is at heart a collaborative art form, and Boritt shares revealing details of his work with the many professionals—directors, designers, technicians, producers, stage managers, and actors—who contribute their talent and ideas to each show. Included here are extensive conversations with theater legends James Lapine, Kenny Leon, Hal Prince, Susan Stroman, Jerry Zaks, and Stephen Sondheim, explaining how their different approaches to theater help to shape the vision for a set and best practices for creative collaboration. Boritt also offers valuable insights into the sometimes frustrating but unavoidable realities of the “biz” part of showbiz—budgets, promotion, reviews, and awards.

Full of indispensable advice for aspiring and seasoned professionals, and with plenty of entertaining and enlightening anecdotes to engage passionate theatergoers, Transforming Space Over Time peels back the curtain and illuminates the artistry and craft of professional theatrical production—and particularly the all-important collaboration of designers and directors.

Aislin and her husband Cesar are excited to settle into their new home in Proctor, Massachusetts. Even their nosy white neighbors seem nice enough. Ivy Johnson was adopted in the fall of 1998 to a Mexican American mother and an African American father. Although it's obvious that she's of color, she has never known where she comes from or her racial background – that is until she sorts through her mail at Thanksgiving. The following weeks come with major discoveries, but they only leave her with more questions. What makes someone Native?

PANELS:

Identity Commodifications and Scarcity Mindset

Led by a member of the Primary Stages artistic staff, these post-show discussions offer an opportunity for the audience to engage in a dialogue with the artists in our productions. This new version of the classic story centers on M and L, twin Asian-American siblings who have given up everything to get into The College. When another classmate claims what they feel is rightfully “their spot,” the twins decide they have only one option: murder.

Seaport Museum staff and crew will take you to places around the ship not typically accessible to the general public. Guests will get a glimpse at how the historic fleet is maintained, see “secret” nooks and crannies, and get immersed in history while walking the entire length of Wavertree’s massive cargo hold.
