I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday - Books: More After the Break: A Reporter Returns to Ten Unforgettable Stories & Movie: Facing Nolan

We may have been given complimentary copies and/or access for review purposes to any products, and/or visual or audio media mentioned below. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books: More After the Break : A Reporter Returns to Ten Unforgettable Stories

Today we are recommending More After the Break: A Reporter Returns to Ten Unforgettable Stories by Jen Maxfield, Jen has been a reporter for over twenty years. She currently works for NBC New York. She has written this book not only to follow up on some of the biggest stories that she has covered over the course of her career but some of the ones that have affected her the most as well. The people whose stories are covered in this book include a man who lost his legs in a ferry accident, a woman who was brutally beaten by her boyfriend, and a young girl hurt in a school bus accident. Jen set out to find and share what happened to these people after their stories appeared in the news.

This book also provides insight into what it is like to be a reporter. They are not just bloodsuckers out to get the story at all costs. They are just human beings with jobs to do,  and the best of them try to go about it in the most respectful way possible. It is not that aren't affected by the people they cover and their stories. In fact, sometimes, they are affected too much, and it can be hard to control their own emotions, but they do it because it is their job.

Although the stories in this book all started out sad, ultimately many of them took an inspirational turn because of what happened after the cameras stopped rolling. For instance, the young bus accident victim became an advocate fighting to make school buses safer for other kids. All of these stories share one thing in common, we can learn from what happened to these people. We can learn about things we need to change and things we need to make better. Thus, we should be grateful to them for sharing their stories with us not once by twice.

Movie: Facing Nolan

Today we are recommending the movie, Facing Nolan. This is a documentary about former baseball pitcher, Nolan Ryan. This Hall of Famer started out inconspicuously in 1966 unable to control his pitches and ended his career as one the greatest players of all time. Even though he retired back in 1993, he still holds over 57 baseball records including the most no-hitters with 7 and the most years played at 27. Whether you are or were a fan of Nolan Ryan, any of the teams he played for, baseball or sports at all, you have to respect all he was able to accomplish.

This film is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray as well as on most digital platforms. To view the trailer, go to www.facingnolan.com.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go-Wednesday.
