I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

4) SHELLEY BUTLER AND WEST HYLER ANNOUNCE THE INAUGURAL 2020 SEASON FOR
ARTISTIC STAMP
A NEW VIRTUAL THEATER COMPANY
DELIVERING INTERACTIVE ADVENTURES THROUGH HANDWRITTEN CORRESPONDENCE IN THE MAIL

Presenting original work from six award-winning playwrights--Ben Bonnema (The Apple Boys) , November Christine, Matt Schatz (UNTITLED a New Musical Comedy about Serious Drama, The Burdens), Jahn Sood (The Disappearing Man, We Were an Island), Elyne Quan, and Natalie Ann Valentine--Artistic Stamp will produce a season of interactive experiences that take audience members on unique journeys via handwritten correspondence. The audience becomes a character in the story, reacting and replying to the letters they receive and playing a role in deciding the outcome. All of this takes place during a seven-letter narrative arc that plays out over the course of September to December. In a time when theatergoers can’t venture out, Artistic Stamp brings the plays home.

Artistic Stamp’s inaugural season features an eclectic and far-reaching variety of experiences- from November Christine’s story of Ida B Wells discovering her voice, to Jahn Sood’s adult-only romance, to Elyne Quan’s sci-fi fantasy for young audiences.

The four month long experience costs $100, paid upfront or in four monthly installments. Tickets are now on sale at www.artisticstamp.com

2020 Artistic Stamp Inaugural Season Productions
The Constellation Melody, by Ben Bonnema
A single melody haunts four composers over two centuries in this queer-musical puzzle.  From a woman struggling with an opera commission to a 19th-century liturgical organist hiding his atheism, four nested stories explore the power of music transcending time and space. (Target Age: 13+)

Ida, by November Christine
From the ashes of the Civil War rises the bustling city of Memphis, Tennessee. Ida B. Wells, a young Negro schoolteacher, arrives in search of a new beginning. But the echoes of slavery still ring loud in the Dixie South. Guide Ida as she discovers her voice in the fight for equality. (Target Age: For All Ages)

The Hidden Slipstream, by Elyne Quan
Two otherworld figures attempt to return an alien artifact to its rightful place on Earth, but end up separated from each other and need your help to reconnect and restore balance to the planet. But you must be careful – a dangerous interdimensional enemy is on their trail and only you can set things right! (Target Age: For Young Audiences and The Young At Heart)

The Wax Box, by Matt Schatz
The adventure begins when you receive a letter from the person who lived in your home before you and the confession that they've hidden something of extreme value within the walls. Can you trust them? (Target Age: 13+)

Fall In Love in 4 Months, by Jahn Sood
Are you tired of staying home watching romance flicks and swiping through Tinder? Does love always seem like someone else’s adventure? Over the next few months you will become embroiled in an affair of your own. Step one, meet our top-level matchmakers. Step two, tell them a little bit about yourself. Don’t hold back. The more honest you are the more likely you are to find real love. Step 3, let the drama begin.  (Target Age: 18+)

The Otherwise, by Natalie Ann Valentine

The world as we know it is falling into chaos. You are the only one with the power to keep darkness from taking complete control. The Otherwise – a mysterious and strange group of deities who are the guardians between our world and all that lies elsewhere – are vanishing. Vega, their leader, requires your help. Through your combined magic – magic you perhaps didn’t even know you had – you must protect our protectors and banish the monsters before it’s too late. (Target Age: 18+)

5) Buglisi Dance Theatre and Lincoln Center
Present a Reimagined
Table of Silence Project 9/11

Featuring Live and Virtual Performance Elements

Livestream on Lincoln Center at Home
Friday, September 11, 2020 at 7:55am EDT

Buglisi Dance Theatre and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in partnership with Dance/NYC, present a reimagining of the Table of Silence Project 9/11an annual free public performance ritual for peace conceived and choreographed in 2011 by Jacqulyn Buglisi, Artistic Director of Buglisi Dance Theatre.

Reimagined for our current moment, Ms. Buglisi's collaborators on the 2020 edition include Composer/Music Director Daniel Bernard Roumain, spoken-word poet Marc Bamuthi Joseph, and Buglisi Dance Theatre Co-Founder/Principal Dancer Terese Capucilli.

The site-specific work had its first presentation on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 on Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center. Since the inaugural performance, more than 1200 professional dancers, musicians, and singers representing the voices of the NYC arts community in all its diversity have performed to viewership reaching close to one million people across all 50 states and in 129 countries via livestream.

A multi-cultural performance ritual for global unity and peace featuring dancers from all corners of the world, the Table of Silence Project 9/11 typically features more than 150 dancers who slowly ascend onto Josie Robertson Plaza from multiple directions with the sound of a conch shell's call to action for peace. Moving to the minimal, plaintive strains of the flute, the "heartbeat" of bass drums, trumpet, bells, and the cries of a chorus, the dancers form three concentric circles around the iconic Revson Fountain, while repeating twelve symbolic ritualistic gestures to manifest an ancient Peace Labyrinth.

This year, Ms. Buglisi is creating a new Prologue in which 24 dancers from Buglisi Dance Theatre, Ailey II, Alison Cook Beatty Dance, Ballet Hispánico's BHdos, The Juilliard School, Limón Dance Company, Martha Graham Dance Company and professional dancers from the NYC community will perform live, encircling Lincoln Center's Revson Fountain. With featured Guest Artists electric violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain and spoken-word poet Marc Bamuthi Joseph.

The socially-distanced performance will be live streamed from Lincoln Center beginning at 7:55am on Friday, September 11, 2020 and conclude at 8:46am, the time the first tower was hit on 9/11/01, followed by welcome remarks from industry leaders, a new world premiere film featuring dancers from around the world, and the full 2019
Table of Silence Project 9/11Part of Lincoln Center at Home (#LincolnCenterAtHome), the offering will be streamed at LincolnCenter.org and on Lincoln Center's Facebook Page. The video will also be available on-demand on LincolnCenter.org/TableOfSilenceProject and Buglisi Dance Theatre's YouTube channel following the premiere.

The stream will include:
  • Prologue, performed live from Lincoln Center;
  • welcome remarks from industry leaders;
  • an excerpt from Ms. Buglisi's Requiem, choreographed in 2001 as an immediate response to the events of 9/11;
  • the World Premiere of Ã‰tudes, a new three-minute film by Nel Shelby Productions that features more than 100 dancers from around the world who have been inspired by the Table of Silence Project 9/11 to create and submit small scale works recorded during the month of August; and
  • the full presentation of the 2019 Table of Silence Project 9/11, a public tribute to the events of 9/11 and a call to action for peace in this world during this 10th anniversary of the work's creation.

8) the american vicarious
in collaboration with The Invisible Dog Art Center present

STATIC APNEA (2020)
Begins September 12 at The Invisible Dog Art Center, Brooklyn

the american vicarious in collaboration with The Invisible Dog Art Center proudly present the New York Premiere of STATIC APNEA (2020) a socially distanced performative installation beginning performances on September 12, 2020.

Conceived and directed by Founding Artistic Director, Christopher McElroen, STATIC APNEA (2020) features text by Julia Watt and is performed by Isabella Pinheiro and Jenny Tibbels. The design team includes Troy Hourie (Installation Designer), Zach Weeks (Lighting Designer) and Andy Evan Cohen (Sound Designer).

The discipline of holding one’s breath underwater, motionless - static apnea. Breath has been taken away. By a virus. By a knee. By the uncertainty. The struggle to restore it has rendered us motionless, collectively holding our breath.

Do you know how long you can hold your breath? Would it be long enough to save yourself? Would it be long enough to save someone you love?

One audience member, surrounded by a tunnel of blue light, descends towards a single performer behind a wall of glass. In a 9 minute and 2 second performance – the female record for static apnea - this performative installation explores how far one might be willing to go to save a life.

STATIC APNEA (2020) is staged in a 40’ storage container that has been designed specifically for this production. It is open at both ends, has high powered fans and air purifiers to ensure proper air flow. Each audience member will be required to wear a face mask and a plexiglass wall will separate them from the performer.

STATIC APNEA (2020) runs September 12 - October 17, Thursday - Saturday from 1pm – 7pm and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm at The Invisible Dog Art Center, 51 Bergen Street in Carroll Gardens. Tickets are free. Reservations for specific entry times can be made at theamericanvicarious.org. Walk ups will be accommodated if entry times are available.
