I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Giveaway: Win a copy of The Righetous Few: Two Who Made A Difference by Marty Brounstein in the One in Melon Giveaway Hop!

Welcome to the One in a Melon Giveaway Hop hosted by MamatheFox

A crisis brings out the very best in some people. The way our doctors and nurses and other medical professionals have selflessly devoted themselves to their patients even at risk to themselves during the current Coronavirus pandemic is just one example of this. However, that is a crisis that is completely within our control. We can try to follow the advice of our medical experts to try to stem the spread of the disease, but we cannot completely control it especially without a vaccine.

There are other crises that we should be able to control and often should not have existed in the first place. These often involved the way we treat our fellow man. No matter the circumstances a person should not place their knee on another person's windpipe until they literally choke the life out of that person.

Luckily, there have always been people who have fought back and stood up for what is right often at great risk to themselves. Sometimes, they have done so openly like the current protests. Other times, they have done so more quietly and secretly like those people that hid Jews during the holocaust. Frans and Miens Wijnakker were two such people. This Dutch couple saved numerous Jews during World War II by hiding many in their house as well as helping in countless other ways despite the risk to themselves and their family. The Righteous Few is their story, and what makes the book even more poignant is that the story is told by their son-in-law whose wife was actually born while her parents were in hiding with the Wijnakker's. For more about this book, see our previous post Tips for Tuesday - Books: The Righteous Few. Enter to win a copy, below:

  2. Our small community set up a 'blessing box' next to the local elementary school. People can drop by at any time to anonymously drop off or pick up food. It's unmanned. Lots of locals will leave fresh vegetables. It gets fairly regular updates on the community Facebook page. People post if it's getting low.
