Mom -When I was a kid, we were much more active than kids are today. We spent much more time outside running around. Sure, we had TV even back then. We didn't have video games and DVDs and computers though. Video game systems were just starting to get popular when I was in high school. I was never that interested in it anyway. It was all mostly games like sports and space invaders and adapted arcade games at that time anyway. Maybe, if they had the type of games my girls played when they were younger, I would have been more interested in video games. They played a lot of games that involved cooking and taking care of children and pets and things like that
Of course, there were always indoor games. There were board games for all. Girls had dolls and things. Boys had action figures and cars and things. Those things could be fun and we enjoyed playing with them, but the allure of them wasn't so great that they kept us from wanting to play outside. I mean there are great things about the electronic games kids play today. It is great that they can learn about how to cook or how to fly a plane or raise a baby or whatever just by playing a game. There are also many educational games to help kids with their math, reading, spelling, or whatever. However, there are too many reasons for kids to not want to go outside and not want to be active. I mean there are games like Wii and X-Box which are more active than previous video games. However, it is still no substitute for the real thing actually going outside and being active and playing.
And that's our view. How did you play when you were a kid?
