I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday: Circus XTREME and Cirque Du Soleil: Paramour

What: Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus: Circus XTREME

Where: see schedule below for tour dates

Who: All ages

Mom's view: Although the fact that Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus is no longer three rings makes it easier to keep track of what is going on, it does seems a lot smaller. Also, there does seem to be a lot less animals with the elephants gone even though there were dogs, camels, and tigers. The elephants are missed. It is so hard to think of Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus without them. However, there is still plenty to like about this circus arguably the most well known circus in the world.  There are talented performers. There are clowns: sometimes funny; sometimes not so much. There are death defying feats like a woman being shot out of cannon. There are animal tricks some cute like a dog standing on its hind legs; some scary like a man getting a tigers to stand and perform. There are acts you might never have seen before in a circus like an act performed on camel's backs instead of horse's backs or a glow-in-the dark aerial act.I am not sure if this circus lives up to its slogan of "The Great Show on Earth." However, all in all, it is fun and entertaining for all ages. The whole thing does seem to go by rather quickly though. I am not sure if it is just because I am getting older or the actual running time of the circus is getting shorter, but it definitely seems much shorter to me. What: Paramour

Where: Lyric Theatre
            213 W. 42nd St.
            New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 8 and up
Mom's view: Paramour is a circus of a different kind. It represents Circus Du Soleil's first venture on Broadway. There are no animal acts here, but there are plenty of amazing acrobatics. There is also a story-line and songs. While the acting and singing are good, the plot is rather cliched. Girl meets boy, and they fall for each other. Girl meets powerful older man who can make her dreams come true. Should she follow her dreams or follow her heart? If you are a sucker for a bittersweet love story, you will love it. The songs are entertaining in the moment but don't stick with you once the show is over. Instead of big dance numbers, there are circus acts. There are flips and jumps and awesome aerial acts and all kinds of incredible acrobatics. The tricks are new and fresher and more entertaining than a lot of the acts in a regular circus. They are what make this show worth seeing, and it definitely is worth seeing. We would not recommend the show for children under 8, however. While children of all ages would probably enjoy the circus aspects of the show, they would probably be bored with the story and there are some scary moments for very young children involving people being chased less than savory characters.
