Our view: If you thought visiting a planetarium was just about staring up at the stars, you have never visited the Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium (RVCC). RVCC Planetarium is both fun and educational. Here you will have the opportunity to listen to stories and/or hear some great music in addition to learning things about the sky. There are several different kind of shows offered by the Planetarium. There are sky shows where you can learn about some aspect of the planets, constellations or other elements of the sky. There are story shows where you will still learn about something about the planets, constellations and/or some other element of the sky, however, you will do so through a fun story rather than by listening to a lecture. Also, there are laser light shows featuring bright and colorful laser pictures accompanied by a popular music soundtrack. Singing along during the laser light shows is not only allowed but encouraged. Some of the laser light shows feature music of a particular artist or group; some feature music from various artists and groups. Not all Planetarium shows are suitable for all ages so check the web-site before you go. If you are going to a show at the Planetarium prompt arrival is not only requested but required. Anyone arriving late will not be allowed entry because once the doors close for a show, they will not be opened again. If you are in the show and you need to leave, you may do so. However, you will not be allowed to reenter before the show is over. You may want to arrive extra early especially if you are visiting with kids because there is a small museum as part of plantetarium. Anyone can visit the museum, however, children are encouraged to participate in a fun scavenger hunt while they explore the museum and learn about the elements of the sky. Children who complete the scavenger hunt will even win a small prize. And that's our view. Tune in to tomorrow's Talking Topics post where we will be talking more about the Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium including a listing of some upcoming shows.
