On a dark and stormy night, a once-grand estate becomes the stage for a chilling crime in this razor-sharp comic mystery from Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro. When a pompous writer spills a family secret, tensions turn to murder, and every guest is a suspect. A sharp-eyed widow, a smooth-talking fiancé, a jealous daughter—no one is who they seem, and everyone has something to hide. Secrets unravel, betrayals come to light, and Mrs. Peck’s motherly instincts might just outmatch the detective’s.

In Messy White Gays, Drew Droege—the sharp-penned and quick-witted diarist of the contemporary homosexual—shines a harsh overhead light on the pores of White Gaydom, revealing what happens when throuples crumble, neighbors bicker, and rich and pretty clash with hot and dumb. It’s Sunday morning in Hell’s Kitchen. Brecken and Caden have just murdered their boyfriend and stuffed his body into a Jonathan Adler credenza. Unfortunately, they’ve also invited friends over for brunch. And they’re out of limes! Feel bad for them! They’re MESSY WHITE GAYS!

43) Works & Process Presents
Up Until Now Collective’s
Fellow Travelers
by Gregory Spears & Greg Pierce
at Guggenheim New York
Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 7pm
Works & Process presents Up Until Now Collective’s Fellow Travelers, by composer Gregory Spears and librettist Greg Pierce, on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 7 PM at Guggenheim New York in the Peter B. Lewis Theater, 1071 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10128. Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased here.
Based on Thomas Mallon’s best-selling 2007 novel, the opera Fellow Travelers tells “a deeply human love story” (Chicago Tribune) set against the backdrop of a forgotten chapter of LGBTQ+ history known as the Lavender Scare. Created by composer Gregory Spears, librettist Greg Pierce, and director Kevin Newbury, Fellow Travelers premiered at Cincinnati Opera in 2016. Since then, it has secured its place in the canon and become one of the most critically acclaimed and widely produced operas of its generation, with over twenty-five thousand tickets sold across fifteen productions.
Up Until Now Collective, under the leadership of Newbury and Jecca Barry, is producing a tenth anniversary tour in 2026–27 that will bring the work to more than ten venues across the U.S., including Seattle Opera, Portland Opera, San Diego Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, Austin Opera, and others to be announced, shedding light on this history while building community within the opera industry and across the country. At Works & Process, Newbury, Barry, and opera company leaders will participate in a moderated discussion exploring collaboration and new production models. Cast members will perform highlights from the opera.
Continue the conversation at a post-performance reception in the rotunda.
In addition to the tenth anniversary tour, Fellow Travelers also broadens its impact through the Lavender Names Project, a pioneering collaboration with the American LGBTQ+ Museum, shedding light on LGBTQ+ history and building community around the country. To learn more, visit americanlgbtqmuseum.org.
To celebrate and honor this extraordinary legacy, Action Wellness will team up with William Way LGBT Community Center on Sunday, October 19, 2025 (10:00am–2:00pm) for an AIDS Walk Philly Retrospective. William Way, home to archives preserving Philadelphia’s LGBTQ+ history, is a fitting host for this special tribute event.
The retrospective will feature curated exhibits, guided tours, light refreshments, and a community guest book for attendees to share their memories. Past participants are especially encouraged to wear their AIDS Walk gear or red in solidarity. Suggested donation is $25.
This event not only honors the history of the walk and AIDS Fund, but also shines a light on the resilience and activism of Philadelphia’s HIV/AIDS community.
