I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday - Books: When Grumpy Met Sunshine & Becoming Nick and Nora & Movie: Our (Almost Completely True) Love Story

Books: When Grumpy Met Sunshine and Becoming Nick and Nora

Today we are talking about When Grumpy Met Sunshine by Charlotte Stein. When writer, Mabel Willicker is assigned to ghostwrite a retired footballer, (Americans would call him a retired soccer player) Alfie Harding's,  autobiography they have to manufacture a pretend relationship to keep the public from finding out what they are really doing. She gradually gets to know the real man behind the gruff exterior and finds herself falling for him for real. Although there is a sweetness at the center of this relationship, the story starts off slow and from there develops into something that feels almost pornographic. The two characters spend almost the entire book being horny for each other. The constant extremely detailed descriptions may be entirely too graphic for some readers and unless you enjoy that kind of thing it's hard to get past it.

Today we are recommending Becoming Nick and Nora by Rob Kozlowski. This book is not only a comprehensive look at the pairing of William Powell and Myrna Loy in the Thin Man films and why they were so successful, but quite a detailed look at the entire careers of these two esteemed actors. It gives a very thorough look at the majority of each of their films. You will definitely gain not only a new appreciation of the Thin Man films and what made the pairing of these two actors so great from reading this book but also a new appreciation of the extraordinary talent of each of them individually and how it was able to develop under (or despite of)  the old studio system.

Today we are recommending Our (Almost Completely True Story) Love Story. This really sweet love story is the fictionalized version of the romance of octogenarian actors, Mariette Hartley and Jerry Sroka and they star as themselves in the film. The presence of each of their real-life daughters and friends, such as Loveboat's Bernie Kopell as themselves as well just add to the touching family vibes of the whole story although there are other actors in the film that are not playing versions of themself as well. This film reminds us that it is possible to find love even at an older age and that age does not matter when it comes to love. Aa romance about an elderly couple can be just as interesting, affecting, and worth watching as the millions of love stories about much younger couples.

Our (Almost Completely True Love Story) is available now digitally for purchase or rental.

Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
