Contrary to what you may think, KPOP is not just a glorified concert. There is enough of that kind of vibe in the show particularly in the later part to please any fan of this type of music. However, there is an actual story to the show. The main part of the plot revolves around a girl who has been groomed from a young age by her manager/surrogate mother to be a KPOP star. She begins to rebel against her entire life being controlled by someone else. There is also a reverse discrimination plot about a boy band member perhaps not being Korean enough.
The story is interesting enough to hold one's interest throughout the entire show. However, unless you are a big fan of this type of music, this is probably not a show that you will feel the need to see more than once. The songs with their tightly choreographed dances are typical of the genre and are fun within the context of the show. Yet, you are probably not going to leave the theater humming any of them or even wanting to hear them again unless you just love KPOP. All in all, this show is a pleasant enough diversion for anyone whether you are a KPOP fan or not, but if you are not seeing this show is not going to change that.
And that's our view. Tune in Sunday for this week's Sunday Scoop.
