I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Based on historical court records, No.11 Productions’ brand-new play Ye Bear & Ye Cubb drops the fourth wall, immersing audiences in a colonial tavern for a high-octane reimagining of the first known English-language play in North America — and the trial it ignites.

THE DRAMATISTS GUILD AND INTERACT THEATRE COMPANY

ELEVATING PHILADELPHIA VOICES IN A DYNAMIC EVENING OF THEATRE

MONDAY DECEMBER 12 AT 8:00PM

AT INTERACT THEATRE COMPANY

On Monday, December 12, The 24 Hour Plays will premiere in Philadelphia for the first time, featuring artists from across the city's vibrant performing arts community. In collaboration with InterAct Theatre Company and the Dramatists Guild, this event shines a spotlight on Philly's thriving theatre scene through a one-night-only event featuring six new plays, written, rehearsed , and performed by extraordinary Philadelphia actors, directors, and playwrights.

The 24 Hour Plays begin the evening before the performance, when actors, writers, directors, and production staff gather for the Meet and Greet. In one hour, each person shares a prop and costume, and actors show off their special skills and something they've always wanted to do on stage. With this creative fuel in mind, the playwrights stay up all night writing short plays. In the morning, directors and actors return to launch into the rehearsal process and at 8pm, the curtain rises on a performance of six never-before-seen new works.

Tickets to the live show on Monday, December 12 are available now here. For additional information, visit: https://24hourplays.org/philadelphia/.

5) Battery Dance Now Accepting Applications for 42nd Annual
Battery Dance Festival
DEADLINE: January 6, 2023

Battery Dance is now accepting applications for the 42nd Annual Battery Dance Festival, with free performances on August 12-19, 2023 at Rockefeller Park, NYC. Applications must be submitted online at https://batterydance.org/apply/.

Battery Dance Festival, New York City’s longest-running free public dance festival, was established by Battery Dance as the Downtown Dance Festival in 1982. It draws in-person audiences of approximately 2,000 people each night from the large downtown population of workers, residents, families, tourists, senior citizens and dance fans from the greater NYC metropolitan area and beyond. The Festival will be livestreamed to our worldwide audiences, reaching thousands of international viewers each night.

Application Details:
Both individual artists and collectives are welcome to apply; you do not need to be a formal organization to be considered.
Each artist/company can submit only one application.
Companies that have performed in the two (2) consecutive prior Festivals (both 2021 and 2022) will not be eligible to participate this year (2023). They will regain their eligibility to apply for next year (2024).
Duration of group works (2 or more dancers) should be between 10-20 minutes. Duration of solo works should be between 4-10 minutes. In selecting a work for consideration, please be mindful of the outdoor performance venue with minimal supplemental lighting and an audience generally not on risers. While there is side lighting, there is no overhead lighting.

If a work exists only in-progress, please send a rehearsal video of the required length with sufficient supplemental information with which to be fairly considered. World Premiere performances and NYC debuts/premieres are welcomed and encouraged. If you are applying with a work-in-progress submission and are accepted into the Festival, you will be asked to provide a video of the completed work before final approval.

Submissions will be reviewed by the Festival Manager to insure their completion and suitability according to the guidelines below, and then scored separately by an independent curation panel.

A modest honorarium will be provided to festival participants.

For artists/companies from India or the Indian Diaspora: The all-Indian Dance Program (August 15 - India Independence Day) will be curated separately. No application is necessary.

For more information, visit https://batterydance.org/apply/.

8) Lincoln Square BID
Presents
Lights Up on Lincoln Square

The cultural heart of New York City will usher in the holiday season with the launch of Lights Up on Lincoln Square (Lights Up), presented by the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District (LS BID).  Kicking off Lights Up, a series of activations and experiences to ‘light up’ the holiday seasonis the return of Lincoln Square’s famed holiday tree - a New York-born Fraser Fir- which will be lit Monday night, December 5th at Dante Park, across from Lincoln Center, at Broadway and 64th Street. The 20-foot tree features unique hand painted ornaments from local pottery studio Color Me Mine, Upper West Side, along with thousands of LED lights. Chia’s Dance Party will perform on the night of December 5 along with stilt walkers, jugglers and clowns from the Department of Spectacle.

To further brighten up the neighborhood, the LS BID has expanded its holiday lighting throughout Lincoln Square by lighting up 20 trees in the Broadway Malls from Columbus Circle up to 70th St and bringing back “Tumbling Brights” - a sequence of 15 lighted spirit figures illuminating the Broadway Malls.  These delicate figures were designed and created during the pandemic as symbols of hope and resilience.

The Fraser Fir isn’t the only excitement coming to Dante Park.  New to this year’s holiday programming that will lift and lighten up neighborhood spirits is the installation of The Big Apple, A Musical Tree and Music Box by DIX au carré and Canadian-based urban art designer Felix Marzell, whose compelling public art installations have been found in more than 700 projects in urban environments around the world. Mr. Marzell’s designs enhance the vibrancy of neighborhoods through creating immersive experiences that merge art, science and community together.
