I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Books: The Keeper of Stories and Ballad of Dreams

Today we are recommending The Keeper of Stories by Sally Page. This is a beautiful story about human connection and goodness. Janice is a keeper of stories. She goes into people's houses and cleans for them, and she collects their stories, stories about what makes them who they are and about the inner goodness in people. Still, she doesn't see the good in herself, and she doesn't want to share her own story.  Then, she meets Mrs. B. and everything changes Although not every character in this book has motives that are pure and cares about others enough of them do that it will make you feel hopeful. Janice in particular is a really kind-hearted caring character. Reading this book is very uplifting.

Today we are also talking about Ballad of Dreams by Allyson Hernandez. This novel is like a musical in book form. If you ever wondered what it would be like if people in real-life arbitrarily broke out into songs every now and then, reading this book is about as close to experiencing that as you can get. The problem is the songs are not as fun when you don't know the tunes. This problem, however, will soon be resolved when the companion album to the novel is released.

The story itself is enjoyable although it is not especially original.  It is about two women who have been friends for years basically telling the story of their lives to one of their granddaughters. It emphasizes what a different world it is now than one in which these women grew up and how much more autonomy women have now and how many more choices are open to them. It aspires to remind us that it is never too late to follow your dream.
