I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

This fall, the children’s story experts at PJ Library expand their engaging offerings for children with the podcast “Have I Got a Story for You!”.  Launched in October, the podcast lifts classic Jewish folk tales from the page, gives them a modern twist and brings them to sparkling life for families seeking an entertaining, enriching diversion from digital life.

Podcast stories currently available on “Have I Got a Story for You!” includes: “Two Sisters,” about a pair of siblings who are best friends, alike in every way – except that one has really bad allergies; “The Truth About Cats and Dogs” which follows the friendship between the first of their species in the time of Adam and Eve, based on an old story from the Middle Ages; the hilarious “Moon Station One,” which takes place 70 years in the future on a crowded moon base, a story which ultimately teaches children about gratitude; “Whisker of Magic,” about two mischievous mouse sisters and “Yitzi the Trusty Tractor,” following the adventures of a tractor who takes off on Shabbat.  Five more streaming episodes will post on Tuesdays throughout the fall at https://pjlibrary.org/podcast:

The cycle was composed in 1802, around the time Beethoven was penning his Second Symphony, and marks a transition from his early works to his second stage where he began experimenting with melody, harmony, and structure, thereby moving beyond the Classical traditions of his peers. It was also a time of great personal and political uncertainty and unrest, and Beethoven dedicated all three works to Tsar Alexander I of Russia.

The second half of the program emerges from the depths with Vivaldi’s joyful Gloria, an exuberant hymn of praise. Pre-concert lecture by scholar Benjamin D. Sosland at 6:15 pm in the Stanley H. 7) Naomi Sarna: Stone in Motion Debuts Carved Gemstone Jewelry at Wilensky Exquisite Minerals

Solo exhibition features the award-winning designer’s bespoke art jewelry, an ode to movement.

In anticipation of New York Jewelry Week, Wilensky brings the marvel of sinuous gemstones to Chelsea. Evocative and ethereal, Naomi Sarna debuts original works at the gallery from November 20th-December 20th, 2019. The award-winning designer will showcase hand carved jewels, inspired by the drapery of fabric and flow of water—a homage to motion in precious gem material. Sculptural and wearable, Sarna’s work complements Wilensky, where breathtaking aesthetic meets exquisite minerals.

During “Naomi Sarna: Stone in Motion,” the emotive power of colored gemstones is unleashed. Viewers follow meticulous curves throughout the cases, enraptured by each complex carving. Sarna’s citrine and pink sapphire “Solar Flare” ring evokes the vibrancy of the sun, conjuring the fiery red of flares erupting on the surface. Her amethyst and diamond cocktail ring is reminiscent of rippling water, calming and fluid. Both bespoke cocktail rings sit along the hand’s natural shape, with Sarna’s signature comfort fit. “Feather,” a 91.64. ct. unheated, carved, winged aquamarine brooch is masterfully crafted, creating an intricate play of light and color throughout the gemstone…a jeweled tour de force.

Exclusively featuring original hand-carved pieces in the contemporary gallery space, “Naomi Sarna: Stone in Motion” will run from November 20th-December 20th, 2019, Monday through Saturday, from 11:00 AM-6:00 PM at Wilensky, 173 10th Avenue, New York, NY, 10011.

This format is ideal for spectators to witness carvings formed in less than 30 minutes before their eyes. But when a well-meaning, if somewhat dysfunctional, “art therapist” shows up on his doorstep, Tommy must finally face his loss. EVERYTHING IS SUPER GREAT explores the different ways we cope with grief and how letting someone in helps us with letting something go.

Single tickets are $25 ($20 for 59E59 Members). Tickets are available by calling the 59E59 Box Office at 646-892-7999 or by visiting www.59e59.org. The approximate running time is 90 minutes with no intermission.

18A) New York Shakespeare Exchange
announces the next
Freestyle Lab:
Our Own Voices, Our Own Tongues
at the 53rd Street Library
Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 7pm

New York Shakespeare Exchange announces the next Freestyle Lab: Our Own Voices, Our Own Tongues on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 7pm at the 53rd Street Library. This event is free, but reservations are suggested at www.nysx.org.

New York Shakespeare Exchange will present the final 2019 installment of their signature Freestyle Labs. Led by our curators and guest scholars, this lab will invite a discussion on Shakespeare and translation, asking us to consider how the work of a playwright who is known around the world might change as that work is "adopted" by other countries and cultures outside of his native England. What do we lose or gain when Shakespeare is translated out of its original text, and what are the different ways that translation can be its own creative act?

MASTERVOICES PRESENTS THE GERSHWINS’
LET ‘EM EAT CAKE
A MUSICAL TAKE ON A PRESIDENTIAL RE-ELECTION GONE HAYWIRE
NOVEMBER 21 AT CARNEGIE HALL

MasterVoices begins its 2019-20 season on Thursday, November 21 at Carnegie Hall with the concert staging of George and Ira Gershwins’ 1933 musical Let ‘Em Eat Cake, with a book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, a comic satire about a populist U.S. President who is voted out of office and stages a coup to regain power. Artistic Director Ted Sperling will direct and conduct MasterVoices, soloists, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s in this timely musical which has not been heard in New York since 1987. Updated casting details are included below.

Following the success of their 1931 Pulitzer Prize winning hit Of Thee I Sing, the Gershwins re-teamed with Kaufman and Ryskind for a sequel, a dark comic political satire about a U.S. President who loses reelection, fires the Supreme Court, decides to stage a military coup, and even paints the White House blue. This rarely produced musical gem is filled with wonderful Gershwin songs, from the romantic “Mine” to the comic “Down With Everyone Who’s Up,” and features many of the actors who made MasterVoices’ 2017 production of Of Thee I Sing a hit.

Jagged Little Pill Begins Performances on Broadway

Following its record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at American Repertory Theater (A.R.T) last summer, Jagged Little Pill begn performances on Broadway on Sunday, November 3, 2019. The official opening night is scheduled for Thursday, December 5.
JAGGED LITTLE PILL is an exhilarating new musical inspired by the themes and raw emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette’s seminal album of the same name. The Healys appear to be a picture-perfect suburban family — but looks can be deceiving. When the cracks beneath the surface begin to show, they must choose between maintaining the status quo or facing harsh truths about themselves, their community, and the world around them. “Urgent, wildly entertaining, and wickedly funny in all the right places” (The Boston Globe), this original story is ignited by Morissette’s groundbreaking music – including such hits as “You Oughta Know,” “Head Over Feet,” “Hand In My Pocket,” and “Ironic” – plus brand-new songs written for the show. Hailed by The New York Times as “a big-hearted musical that breaks the mold,” JAGGED LITTLE PILL “takes on the good work we are always asking new musicals to do: the work of singing about real things.”

TICKETS & PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE
Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased via www.Telecharge.com/212-239-6200 (outside NY metro area: 800-432-7250), or by visiting the Broadhurst Theatre Box Office at 235 W 44th St., NYC. Box office hours are Monday–Saturday 10am–8pm, Sunday 12pm–6pm.
