Nobody does glitz and glam like Hollywood, both on and off screen. All those amazing looks on screen are put together by costume designers. One of the most well-known costume designers of the early days, who is probably not as well known today, is Travis Banton. Banton worked with numerous iconic movie stars, including Claudette Colbert, Mae West, and Marlene Dietrich, on films like Cleopatra, I'm No Angel, and Shanghai Express. Now Banton's life and career are captured in the fascinating new book Banton of Paramount: Haute Couture in Hollywood's Golden Age by Howard Gutner. This book not only details his experiences working with these actresses and the outfits he created for them, but also offers numerous pictures of his creations.
