What: BroadwayCon
Where: New York Marriot Marquis
1535 Broadway
New York, New York
Who: All ages
When: This year's event took place from February 7 - February 9
The 10th Anniversary BroadwayCon took place this past weekend at the Marriot Marquis in New York City. This year's celebration of all things Broadway was full of many familiar aspects that fans have grown to love over the years plus more. Plenty of fascinating panels on particular shows, theatre-related jobs, and other Broadway-related topics were presented. There were performances from current and upcoming shows (more on that in our next Still More Theater Saturday post). There were amusing Broadway-related games. There was merchandise to buy. There was so much more to do, see, and explore.
New additions to the event included even more performances from upcoming and currently open Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. Plus there were more sing-alongs. There were also special BroadwayCon nights at several Broadway Shows including The Great Gatsby, A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Story, and & Juliet. Attendance at BroadwayCon nights at the theater did require the purchase of tickets to the particular show albeit at a slightly discounted rate.
Even with the confusion of a last-minute venue change, this year's BroadwayCon went fairly smoothly and was jam-packed with Broadway-related fun. We do miss the days when the first two days of BroadwayCon were longer because it seems like there is too much to cram in a shorter period now, and more choices have to be made about when and where to spend one's time. However, having too much to do is a much happier dilemma than having too little.
