Books: Swordheart & The Secret History of Audrey James
Me - Swordheart by T. Kingfisher is a unique, lighthearted fantasy romance book!
Halla was an enjoyable protagonist to read about. She was inquisitive, intelligent, and strong. The love interest, Sarkis, was also a compelling character, and I liked his protectiveness over Halla. However, there were moments when it felt like both Halla and Sarkis were acting younger than their ages. They were supposed to be in their mid-thirties but sometimes they felt almost like teenagers. This didn't necessarily take away from my enjoyment of the book but it was something worth noting.
The romance that blossomed between Halla and Sarkis was sweet and it was entertaining watching them both pine for each other throughout the story. Their emotional connection was not the strongest I've seen but there was chemistry, and the banter between them was also good.
My biggest complaints about this book were the ending and the pacing. The end felt so abrupt I thought I had somehow skipped a few pages. It almost felt like the author was setting up for a sequel, but I don't believe that's the case. As for the pacing, it was slow at times, and I found myself wishing for more action. However, even in the slower moments, I was still intrigued enough by the story to keep reading.
Overall, this wasn't groundbreaking but it was a fun read. If you're a fan of cozy fantasy romance and this story appeals to you, I'd say give it a try.

Mom - Today I recommend The Secret History of Audrey James. In the middle of a personal crisis, Kate finds herself drawn to the inn where her parents spent their honeymoon. There she meets Audrey James, the reclusive owner, who eventually begins relaying her unbelievable history which included hiding her Jewish best friend and joining a group that aimed to assassinate Hitler during World War II.
Although there are numerous Holocaust-related stories, this one is unique and different. Although it is not a true story, parts of the story were based on real people and/or events making it even more intriguing. Audrey is an exciting heroine. Her kindness, loyalty, bravery, and courage make her easy to like and root for. Although Kate is a likable character as well, it doesn't feel as if you get to know her in quite the same way as Audrey or perhaps it is just that even though Kate has been through a lot, it is not quite as extreme as the things that Audrey has been through so she is the more interesting character.
The story moves along quickly. It is full of a mix of heartwarming tender moments and sad heartbreaking ones. The ending is a sweet surprise and really ties everything together in a nice way. Although there is romance in the story, it is not completely a romance, and there is unrequited love as well. Even so, the book should appeal to both history and romance lovers.
Music: Romantics Anonymous Live Cast Recording
Romantics Anonymous is the story of two painfully shy people who meet and fall for each other. He owns a chocolate factory, and she is secretly a master chocolate maker. A version of the show was staged and broadcast online during the pandemic.
Now a live cast recording has been released. Even though the recording does not contain the entire show, there is quite a lot of dialogue so it is easy to follow what is going on even if you haven't seen the show. There are times, however, when you may feel lost because the theater audience is clearly laughing at something visual that obviously can't be seen on the recording. Those who have seen the show and only want to listen to the music may find the dialogue somewhat intrusive.
The music is quite pretty and sweet. It is not especially memorable, however. None of the songs really stick in your head.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday
