I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

We were given complimentary tickets to Counting and Cracking for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Counting and Cracking

Where: NYU Skirball
             566 LaGuardia
             New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 15 and Up

When: Through September 22, 2024

Counting and Cracking is the story of several generations of a Sri Lankan/Australian Family. At the center of the story is Radha and her son, Siddartha. With her country rife with civil unrest, a pregnant Radha fled to Australia. Years, later a surprising revelation uproots both of their worlds.

Don't let the length of this show, which has a three-and-a-half-hour running time, or the mix of languages spoken in the play keep you away from this incredible show. It moves along briskly. It never lags and is so intriguing that it holds your interest throughout the play. Many shows with an actual running time of half as much or less feel twice as long or more. As for the languages, every word spoken is immediately translated into English. Plus, the whole play is not all spoken in a different language. Plenty of it is just in English.

The cast of nineteen gives incredibly nuanced performances. The staging is brilliantly creative. You are definitely not going to want to miss this breathtakingly astonishing show!

What: That Parenting Musical

Where: Theater Row - Theatre Three
              410 W. 42nd St.
              New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 13 and Up

When: Through January 12, 2024

That Parenting Musical is a fun musical review about having and raising kids. It is full of amusing songs that address such issues as traveling with kids, trying to carve out a little me time, finding a babysitter, and more.

The show is performed by a talented six-person cast who work together like a well-oiled machine. While some play specific roles like the mother and the father, others take on several roles.

Not everyone in the show is a child or parent, Childless characters are represented in the show as well. Thus, whether you are a parent or not the show is still relatable. However, by the end, all the adult characters either have a child or are expecting and no characters remain childless by choice.  This does not mean if you are childless by choice, you won't enjoy it. You just may enjoy it in a different way.
