I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

8) THE OPEN CIRCLE PLAY FACTORY ANNOUNCES

THE LANFORD WILSON PROJECT

OFF-BROADWAY AT THEATRE FIVE, THEATRE ROW

THE COMPANY’S FIRST ENDEAVOR WILL BE DIRECTED
BY MAC MCCARTY AND FEATURES BOTH THE MOUND BUILDERS AND SYMPATHETIC MAGIC PERFORMING IN REPERTORY

Open Circle Play Factory, under the Artistic Direction of Mac McCarty, today announced it will present a limited engagement Off-Broadway run of The Lanford Wilson Project, its inaugural endeavor aimed at making vital the works of Lanford Wilson for a new audience and rekindling the spirit of ensemble acting for which he wrote. Wilson was one of the founders of the Circle Repertory Company, and a Pulitzer Prize winner - and developed his work within the historic context of the Off-Off Broadway theatre movement. The Lanford Wilson Project is a continuation of that legacy and features The Mound Builders and Sympathetic Magic, both directed by Mr. McCarty and performed in repertory over a four-week run Tuesday, November 23rd – Saturday, December 18th at Theater Five, Theater Row. Tickets are $50 (+$2.50 service fee) and can be purchased online at: https://bfany.org/theatre-row/  - https://www.opencircleplayfactory.com

Past secrets and present ambition lead to tragic ends in The Mound Builders: DisunionPart 1 of The Lanford Wilson Project. It is a mystery set around an archeological dig in Southern Illinois and is filled with characters both funny and exasperating. It looks at themes of ambition, privilege versus aspiration, the dangers of patriarchy, the repression of women, and the tragic results that occur when these issues collide in acts of hubris. The cast of The Mound Builders: Disunion features Carson Alexander, Angela Atwood, Steve Carlsen, Kelsey Claire, Stella Marcus, Tamra Paselk, and Jeffrey C. Wolf.

The turmoil of the cosmos is mirrored in the human condition in Sympathetic Magic: Coming Together – Part 2 of The Lanford Wilson Project. It follows a group of intense and clever San Franciscans — artists, scientists, spiritual searchers and lost souls — who continue to struggle with the themes of Part 1. While dealing with artistic failure and scientific uncertainty in the midst of a pandemic, they endeavor in their fierce and lively way to overcome the tragedies of the past and rise up. The cast of Sympathetic Magic: Coming Together features Matthew Bechtold, Taylor Lynn Carter, Pethio Dav, Katherine King, Mitch Lerner, Phil Rafferty, Alexander Spears, and Athena Torres.

15) South Street Seaport Museum
announces
Winter Exhibitions
at 12 Fulton Street
Now Open

The South Street Seaport Museum announces the opening of two winter exhibitions exploring the turn of the century in downtown Manhattan on December 4, 2021 at 12 Fulton St. The exhibitions include a new introductory gallery South Street and the Rise of New York, as well as a newly reconfigured return of the popular Millions: Migrants and Millionaires aboard the Great Liners, 1900-1914, which was last on view prior to the pandemic. Each exhibition will be open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 5pm, except December 24, 2021 - January 2, 2022 when the Museum will be closed for the holidays. Admission is free, and advanced timed tickets can be reserved at seaportmuseum.org/onview.

The exhibition highlights Schermerhorn Row, the block of warehouses and offices that stand on man-made land reclaimed from the East River between about 1797 and 1807; the Museum's fleet of historic ships, which tell the story of New York as a great port city through their connections to world commerce, coastal deliveries, and the working harbor; and Bowne & Co., a contemporary re-interpretation of one of the many printing offices that flourished in lower Manhattan in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Millions: Migrants and Millionaires aboard the Great Liners, 1900–1914 is one of the first exhibitions to examine, side-by-side, the dichotomy between First Class and Third Class passengers aboard ocean liners in the early 20th century. This exhibition features both original and reproduction artifacts from the Museum's permanent collection including ocean liner memorabilia and ephemera, ceramics, and luggage trunks from both immigrants and First Class passengers.

The exhibition will familiarize viewers with passenger life aboard ocean liners, the defining differences between travel for wealthy Americans in First Class and future Americans immigrating to the United States in Third Class.

Seaport Museum Memberships start at $50 and help support Museum’s exhibitions, preserve the ships and the collections, grow public programs, and serve over 12,000 students through education initiatives. To join the Museum as a Member, visit seaportmuseum.org/membership.

In addition, tall ship Wavertree, lightship Ambrose, and the outdoor exhibition on Pier 16 are continuing to welcome visitors for free on Saturdays and Sundays in December, 11am to 5pm. Visits on Wavertree are self-guided along a set route and will include access to the main deck and quarter deck. Learn how people worked and lived aboard a 19th century cargo sailing vessel, from the captain to the ship’s officers, cooks, and crew. Then visit the cargo hold and stand atop the viewing platform where you can take in the massive main cargo area. Learn more and reserve free timed entry tickets as seaportmuseum.org/visitwavertree. Visitors on Ambrose can tour the multiple decks of this National Historic Landmark to see the living and working spaces once inhabited by sailors stationed on Ambrose, as well as the special features that allow the ship to fulfill its mission of staying on station, being seen, and being heard. Guided tours of Ambrose will depart at: 11:30am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm, and 4:00pm. Tickets are free for adults and kids. Book your tickets at seaportmuseum.org/ambrose.

Please note that in accordance with NYC Emergency Executive Order 225, proof of at least one COVID-19 vaccination dose will be required to enter each exhibition for all guests ages 12 and older, and children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult. Proof of vaccination can be provided in the form of a physical immunization card, NY Excelsior Pass app, or the NYC COVID Safe app when you check in at the reception desk at 12 Fulton Street.

Additionally, in accordance with current Federal and New York State COVID-19 guidance, masks are required at all times throughout the Seaport Museum campus. Face coverings are required for employees, and increased cleaning protocols are also in place. Current COVID-19 protocols can be found at seaportmuseum.org/covid-19-updates.

18)Theater Resources Unlimited
Hosts the TRU
Writer-Director Communications Lab (Virtual)
Sunday, December 11, 2021 at 1pm

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) hosts a Writer-Director Communications Lab presented virtually on Sunday, December 11, 2021 from 1pm-7pm ET. This is an amazing opportunity for directors and writers to meet and hone their ability to talk productively with each other! The workshop will be held on Zoom to enable artists beyond the New York area to join. Seven directors are confirmed with availability for three more. Writers must submit and be accepted before registering. The deadline for writer submissions is Wednesday, December 1, 2021. For more information and to submit, visit https://truonline.org/events/writer-director-virtual-lab-2021/

One of the most important - and most sensitive - relationships in theater is that between playwright and director. In some ways, the entire success of a show can hinge on the shared understanding, trust and mutual respect between these two artists. The director and the writer need to see the show with the same eyes, otherwise their collaboration won't work. This is important to establish in the initial meetings. TRU's program will train theater artists in the crucial skills of communication. The event will be led by commercial producer and communications expert Ric Wanetik (Tony nominated Twilight Los Angeles: 1992, Broadway’s Marlene, Off-Broadway’s Jolson and Company) and TRU executive director Bob Ost, with entertainment attorney/mediator Eric Goldman.

In this Lab they will team up to ten directors with up to ten writers prior to the Lab itself. OBSERVERS ARE ALSO WELCOME TO COME WATCH AND LEARN, LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE. Playwrights will email us a synopsis, pitch and production history, plus 5-10 sample pages of a script; directors will select a project that interests them from those submitted, request and read the script and prepare for a preliminary director-writer discussion about the play. We will watch and guide that discussion in the Lab. You will:

 Discover your personal communication style
• Learn to identify the style of the person you are with, and adjust to it for maximum mutual
  understanding
• Explore non-threatening ways of discussing text, communicating and listening
• Identify your domain of authority, and determine protocols

Confirmed directors: Andrea Andresakis, Dennis CorsiRyan Cupello, Brian DayeMiriam EusebioJesica Garou, Chris Michaels. 3 slots are available. Other directors (as well as writers) are encouraged to attend as Observers and join the conversations.
