I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Brandon and Abel, two very different guys, met in an online fanfiction group devoted to their favorite sci-fi TV show, Castaway Planet. During a weekend adventure that changes everything, the guys—along with Brandon’s best friend and nerd skeptic, Bec—hit the road in an RV to attend a fan convention for Cast- away Planet. Along the way, Brandon and Abel uncover secrets about each other, spar with an online community of fanfiction writers, meet their TV idols, and maybe possibly fall in love. But as Brandon’s conservative upbringing and Abel’s painful romantic past conspire to keep them apart, the two have to find a way to repair their own hearts—and each other’s.

4) CENTENARY STAGE COMPANY AND AMERICAN PATCHWORK QUARTET LAUNCH #AMERICANPATCHWORKPROJECT  

Centenary Stage Company and American Patchwork Quartet are partnering together to collect heritage stories for the #AmericanPatchworkProject. This project will culminate with A Conversation with American Patchwork Quartet on January 22 at 3:00 pm where American Patchwork Quartet will share about their own heritage, their music, and their mission. For more information on how to share a story, go to centenarystageco.org and to make a reservation call Centenary Stage Company’s box office at (908) 979-0900.  

There are no requirements as to what a heritage story is in order for it to be submitted. The story can be anything; an immigration story or that of parents / grandparents, a simple tracing of ancestral roots, a specific moment, experience, or story passed down or perhaps even a continued tradition that is part of an inherited sense of family identity. These stories will be collected now through January 21, 2022 and shared across Centenary Stage Company’s social media platforms as part of the #AmericanPatchworkProject 

There are two (2) formats for submitting a heritage story. The first is a video submission of the story being told. The second is a written submission. Written stories can be submitted digitally or dropped off at the Centenary Stage Company box office between 1:00 and 5:00 pm starting January 3, 2022. Centenary Stage Company will also have a station set up to record stories in the Lackland Center between 1:00 and 5:00 pm on January 5, 12, and 19, 2022 to help anyone who would like to record their heritage story.

DJ Squirm-a-Lot is hosting the second annual Story Pirates New Year's Eve Party ... from the moon. Kids everywhere are invited to join the interactive adventure, which will involve story creation, songs, games and special guests from the award-winning Story Pirates Podcast. This is festive comedy improv for all ages.

At the party, DJ Squirm-a-Lot will launch a fireworks show so big everyone will be able to see it back on Earth. It's like a million fireworks shows for the price of one! As the severity of New York’s rise in COVID-19 cases as it relates to the Omicron variant, and in addition to vaccine mandates, temperature checks, and mandatory masks in public areas, The Green Room 42 announces the following other ways they are adjusting and adapting for the safety of their patrons, performers, and staff:

  • Effective immediately, in addition to the live in-person experience, ALL SHOWS will be live-streamed. This enables guests who may feel uncomfortable, have been exposed, are experiencing symptoms, or have tested positive to watch from the comfort of their homes until this wave passes.

  • All in-person tickets to our shows come with a $10 food and beverage voucher that may be used in the room. If a guest feels uncomfortable being unmasked and/or eating and drinking while watching the show, they may choose to remain masked for the performance and enjoy their credit while dining in our adjacent outdoor space, heated tented area, or other outlets on the 4th floor of YOTEL.

THE SEEING PLACE THEATER is pleased to announce their production of Margaret Edson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, WIT, directed by Brynn Asha WalkerWIT will play a three-week limited engagement at The Seeing Place at The Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street, NYC 10003). Performances begin Thursday, December 30, 2021 and continue through Sunday, January 16, 2022. Opening Night is Sunday, January 2 (2 p.m.).  Tickets are $25-$35 and are available at www.TheSeeingPlace.com.  Press are invited to all performances.

Margaret Edson's powerfully imagined Pulitzer Prize-winning play examines what makes life worth living through her exploration of one of existence's unifying experiences ― mortality ― while she also probes the vital importance of human relationships.

Vivian Bearing, Ph.D., a renowned professor of English who has spent years studying and teaching the brilliant and difficult metaphysical sonnets of John Donne, has been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. Her approach to the study of Donne, and her cancer, is aggressively probing, intensely rational. But during the course of her illness—and her stint as a prize patient in an experimental chemotherapy program at a major teaching hospital—Vivian comes to reassess her life and her work with a profundity and humor that are transformative both for her and the audience.

In this carefully crafted stylized rendition from The Seeing Place Theater two of the performers have their own unique experiences with Cancer. Erin Cronican (Vivian Bearing, PhD) is currently battling Stage 4 (metastatic) Breast Cancer. She was diagnosed with this terminal disease on November 6, 2018. She's on weekly systemic chemo under the care of doctors at Mount Sinai Hospital. Robin Friend (Dr. Jason Posner) is a Testicular Cancer Survivor, who was diagnosed and treated in early-mid 2021.

The Seeing Place Theater works to inspire audiences to "social justice action" by using the themes of its plays to educate and incite change, particularly for women, LGBTQIA+, Global Majority (BIPOC), immigrants, and the disabled/those with chronic illnesses. Working with members of the community and empowering their voices is an important component of their work. In addition to Edson’s membership in the LGBTQIA+ community, members of the company include Brynn Asha Walker (Susie Monahan, RN) who is a Trans actress bringing an interesting layer of complexity to the patriarchal "office politics" routinely seen in medicine. (She is also the caregiver to Cronican whom she married in August 2021). Brynn is also a member of the Global Majority (BIPOC). Christopher James Murray (Dr. Kelekian, and others) is both a member or the LGBTQIA+ community and the Global Majority (BIPOC).

WIT plays the following regular schedule through Sunday, January 16: 

 

 Wednesdays at 7 p.m. 

 Thursdays at 7 p.m. 

 Fridays at 7 p.m. 

 Saturdays at 7 p.m. 

 Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
