Her words. His voice. Hollywood legend Judy Garland’s infamous private recordings are the basis of The Book That I’m Going to Write, By Judy Garland, faithfully adapted and performed by Jason Powell. On the heels of winning The Producer’s Encore Award at Hollywood Fringe in Los Angeles, the show makes its New York City debut on November 3 at The Jerry Orbach Theater (1627 Broadway at 50th Street) for three performances through November 5.
In 1964, hot on the heels of a historic comeback concert at Carnegie Hall and the triumph of producing a successful weekly variety television series for CBS, Garland decided to write her memoirs. Encouraged by her publisher to put her thoughts and memories on tape to be transcribed later, the recordings Garland made alone at home revealed a deeply pained woman largely unknown to the public.

Ego Actus continues it’s 2018 season with the World Premiere of Sycorax, Cyber Queen of Qamara, written by Fengar Gael. The production is directed by Ego Actus Artistic Director Joan Kane and runs from November 1 to 18 at HERE.
The witch Sycorax, a character referred to, but never seen, in Shakespeare's The Tempest, has waited 500 years for the right medium to tell her side of the story. The internet is what she was waiting for. The first half of the play is her backstory in wealthy households in Algiers where her family wants to marry her off to a man she does not like and she discovers her supernatural powers. She gets banished to the jungle island of Qamara and plots her revenge. Eight actors play 19 characters including four animals.

Works & Process will present a Dorrance Dance Rotunda Project Revivalwith two free special demonstrations and a performance for middle and high school students on November 1, 2018.
The work, a site-specific commission made in and for the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed rotunda of the Guggenheim which the New York Times hailed as a "revelatory dance experience," features percussive dance and transforms the iconic space into a giant musical instrument. After its premiere in 2017, Dance Magazine called the work "genius... funny yet breathtaking, endlessly entertaining but compositionally brilliant," and the work was selected as a Best of Dance by the New York Times for 2017. The piece is 40 minutes long, highly engaging, and immersive, making use of the architecture and acoustics of the rotunda through cross-genre percussive movement.

Broadway veteran and Tony© Award nominee Rebecca Luker (Cinderella)stars in this musical that finds a single mom’s relationship with her brilliant only child tested when he interviews for the college of his choice. Directed by Tony©Award winner Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza), with music direction by Benji Goldsmith and Yari Bond on cello.
The Costume, with words and music by Daniel Zaitchik. Newcomer Finn Douglas (A Man’s World) stars in this musical that finds 10-year old Leo on Halloween 1954 given the unexpected task of caring for an injured bird overnight. Directed by Noah Himmelstein, with music direction by Deborah Abramson and on violins Patti Kilroy and Ludovica Burtone.
Window Treatment, with words by Deborah Zoe Laufer and music by Daniel Green. Broadway’s Farah Alvin (It Shoulda Been You) is set to star in this musical that finds a lonely New Yorker planning her future with a stranger across the courtyard. Directed by Portia Krieger, with music direction by Paul Masse and Brandon Wong on the vibraphone.

LA MAMA, recipient of the 2018 Regional Theater Tony Award, announces its Puppet Festival, (November 1 – 25, 2018), featuring the New York and World premiere of works by artists from around the world including Germany, Brazil, Australia, Japan, Colombia, China, Belgium, and the USA taking place at La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theatre and The Downstairs (66 E. 4 St.), in the East Village throughout the month of November. The festival highlights interdisciplinary works from female artists who explore many contemporary issues including cultural identity, Black Lives Matter, the refugee crisis, and the disability experience. Puppet Festival curator, Denise Greber, explained “The majority of all the creatives in this festival, whether a director, conceptualist, designer, or performer, are women.
