Historic Philadelphia Opens Season on Memorial Day Weekend
Historic Philadelphia, Inc. opens the 2016 season of Once Upon A Nation on Memorial Day Weekend with expanded free family fun, Betsy Ross House’s new exhibits, and a year-long celebration of Franklin Square’s 10th Birthday.
· Between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, visitors will have even more opportunities to interact with Once Upon A Nation’s history coming to life with more FREE happenings, such as the brand new Colonial Kids’ Quest Puppet Show, a light-hearted adventure where kids of all ages will help animal puppets search for a missing copy of the Declaration of Independence.
· The Once Upon A Nation History Makers (Colonial interpreters in period dress who portray real people from our nation’s past) will captivate visitors with even more opportunities to meet famous and not-so-famous real historical figures. · The summer season will begin with Historic Philadelphia’s popular immersive walking tours: Independence After Hours and three seasonal versions of the Tippler’s Tour.

Manhattan Theatre Club’s world premiere of The Ruins of Civilization, the new play by award-winning playwright Penelope Skinner (The Village Bike), directed by Obie Award winner Leah C. Gardiner (Born Bad), opened, Wednesday, May 18, at The Studio at Stage II – Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play Series atNew York City Center – Stage II (131 West 55th Street).
Sometime in the future, Dolores (Rachael Holmes) and Silver (Tim Daly) are living their married life within the constraints and norms of a new world order. In an act of what seems like pure generosity, Dolores secretly opens their home to a stranger in need; but will she come to regret it? Can her actions have an impact or is it just too late? A bold world premiere thriller, The Ruins of Civilization explores our need for free will and connection, even in a world on the brink of extinction. It's the latest work from Penelope Skinner, the award winning author of The Village Bike.

The Father
Manhattan Theatre Club’s American premiere of The Father, the new play by Molière Award winner Florian Zeller, with a translation by two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Hampton (Sunset Boulevard, Les LiaisonsDangereuses, God of Carnage) and directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes (Doubt, Outside Mullingar,City of Conversation) will extend by one week at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street). The limited engagement, which opened on April 14 to critical raves, has been extended through Sunday, June 19.
Frank Langella received his seventh Tony nomination for his role in The Father and was awarded the 2016 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play. Langella is also nominated for the 2016 Drama Desk Award and will be honored at the 2016 Drama League Awards for this performance. The Father has been nominated for the 2016 Tony Award, Drama League Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Play.
Now 80 years old, André (Frank Langella) was once a tap dancer. He lives with his daughter Anne (Kathryn Erbe) and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover, Pierre? The thing is, he is still wearing his pajamas, and he can’t find his watch. He is starting to wonder if he’s losing control.
