Where: 70 S. Main St.
New Hope, PA
Who: Recommended for Ages 14 and Up
When: Through May 25, 2025
The Apple Boys, an irreverent made-up story of a barbershop quartet, has a cast of characters that mixes real and fictional people. The former includes Nathan Handwerker, the founder of Nathan's Famous, and among the latter is Jack, a fictional relative of John Chapman, the real Johnny Appleseed. The show is extremely light-hearted and quite amusing. The immensely talented four-member cast each brilliantly takes on several roles. Each actor shines brightly on their own, but together they are like a well-oiled machine, elevating the whole piece to a different level.
The songs are quite funny within the show, particularly the barbershop quartet songs that make up most of the score. The harmonies are gorgeous as well. However, the songs likely wouldn't be as fun to listen to outside the show. These are definitely not songs you would go around humming. The few solo songs are not as interesting, even within the show.
Overall, the show is just an appealingly fun time. If you want to escape from real life for a while, this pleasantly diverting musical may be just what you need.
