Me & Mom - The NYC Barber Shop Museum is an actual working barbershop as well as a museum. Despite the small size of the location, there are quite a lot of pictures and objects in the collection. They include numerous razors, scissors, and other tools of the trade. There are several barber poles as well and so much more. It's crazy to see signs offering shaves for 25 cents or even 50 cents.
If you are lucky enough to visit when the founder, Arthur Rubinoff, is there, he will gladly tell you some fascinating information about the history of barbering. When we met him, he also advised us that he has a lot more items than he is currently able to display including a number of different barber chairs. He is hoping to eventually move to a larger location so he can display even more of his collection. We look forward to that and hope that we have the chance to visit again when and if he does.
And that's our view. A visit to the NYC Barber Shop Museum is free. For more information, visit www.nycbarbershopmuseum.com. To schedule a visit or book a tour, visit welcome@nycbarbershopmuseum.com or call +1 646-476-3525
