I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

2) MIND THE ART ENTERTAINMENT & THE BRICK TO PRESENT
CHRISTIAN DE GRÉ CÁRDENAS’
ACEDIA: AN APOCALYPSE TRILOGY
SATURDAY, APRIL 16 THROUGH SATURDAY, APRIL 30
AT THE BRICK THEATRE

Mind the Art Entertainment in association with The Brick, have announced that Christian De Gré Cárdenas’ award-winning ACEDIA: An Apocalypse Trilogy, is slated for a limited engagement run Saturday, April 16th through Saturday, April 30th at The Brick Theatre (579 Metropolitan Avenue in Brooklyn). The three plays stand alone and can be enjoyed separately in any order or can be experienced as a collective and immersive experience on each of the three Saturdays during the run.

ACEDIA: An Apocalypse Trilogy consists of Sappy Tales for a Frozen Heart (ACEDIA: Part 1), Fish Food for Feelings (ACEDIA: Part 2), and Ampathy: miscreated by a non-writer (ACEDIA: Part 3). Directed by Brian Freeland, The ACEDIA trilogy explores the times before the apocalypse, during, and after. Audiences can experience the productions in repertory — or see them all on one day and save. http://www.bricktheater.com/mind-the-art-entertainments-acedia/

SAPPY TALES FOR A FROZEN HEART (ACEDIA PART 1)
Set before The Apocalypse- Can a broken man find humor and meaning as he listens to tales of romance on an old radio in an isolated cabin for 7 weeks as the world comes to an end? Can any of us? Is that the future, the past, the end of the world, or just another well-meaning neighbor or rent collector, knocking at the door?

For specific dates or to purchase tickets, visit here

FISH FOOD FOR FEELINGS (ACEDIA PART 2)
Set on the eve of The Apocalypse - There’s no better way to enhance the apocalypse than by negotiating with your siblings over the family legacy. Four adopted siblings meet at an abandoned cabin on the 2nd anniversary of their parents’ death. The middle child has recently undergone a procedure to have his feelings removed. As the siblings struggle to reconcile their differences his psychotherapist shows up in the middle of the night along with an eccentric singer who claims to be the physical manifestation of the middle child’s removed feelings. Fish Food for Feelings is a surrealist dueling sibling dramedy unraveling during the end of the world.

AMPATHY, miscreated by a non-writer (ACEDIA Part 3)

ACEDIA: AN APOCALYPSE TRILOGY
A cheery exploration of the morose and existential. An immersive theatrical experience. A celebration of apocalyptic turmoil and the collapse of the inner self. Fun. Painful. A question. Acedia: the lost name for the emotion we’re all feeling. A state of listlessness or torpor. An inert state without pain or care. ACEDIA: AN APOCALYPSE TRILOGY  is three plays, or parts, that stand alone or can be experienced as a collective. On three Saturdays in April, the three parts are performed together, all in one day.

Scott McLucas Studio Stage, with an opening night set for April 24, 2022.

In the Shadow of the Glen opens in the midst of a storm as a Tramp seeking lodging for the night finds the downtrodden young Nora Burke preparing an impromptu wake. Her layabout husband Dan has died suddenly, but not without cursing Nora that none should touch his body. Nora and the Tramp share supernatural tales and dream of what life could be, but when Nora leaves to call for the young neighbor Michael, we learn that there is more to the story. Is all as it seems?

Sarah Casey, the Beauty of Ballinacree, has aspirations to be married by a priest to the tinker Michael Byrne in The Tinker’s Wedding. But his mother, the “old flagrant heathen” Mary Byrne, has other ideas. The boisterous Mary steals Sarah’s hard-earned savings to spend on a pint, and the two scuffle as the wedding day dawns. When the priest can’t be paid the shilling and tin can he has been promised, Sarah turns her wrath on Mary, and we begin to wonder if the pagan rituals of peasants aren’t perhaps more honorable than the behavior of a corrupt priest.

Directed by Charlotte MooreTwo by Synge pairs early masterpieces by John Millington Synge, inspired by the stories he heard and witnessed while living among poor Irish peasants (at the behest of none other than WB Yeats) at the turn of the twentieth century. Synge celebrates the hardscrabble lives of country people, especially the headstrong and powerful women.

Synge began composing In The Shadow of the Glen and The Tinker’s Wedding in the summer of 1902. Glen was finished first and premiered in 1903 at the Molesworth Hall in Dublin. Wedding was not completed until December 1907. It premiered at His Majesty’s Theatre in London in 1909, seven months after Synge’s death at 37 from Hodgkin’s disease. Wedding was poorly received in its time, and did not receive a performance at the Abbey Theatre until 1971. In the subsequent years, the Abbey Theatre players toured the United States, led by Lady Gregory, and performed Glen in their repertory.

The performance schedule is as follows: Wednesdays at 2:30pm & 7:30pm; Thursdays at 7pm; Fridays at 7:30pm; Saturdays at 2:30pm & 7:30pm; Sundays at 2:30pm.

Tickets to Two By Synge begin at $50 and are available now to Irish Rep members. Tickets will go on sale to the public on March 8 at 1pm ET and will be available at IrishRep.org.

As guidelines continue to change, Irish Rep will constantly monitor the rules and regulations put forth by the CDC, the New York State Department of Health, the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and New York City’s “Restart NYC” guidance for businesses as well as the new Key to NYC program instituted on August 3. As a result of these requirements, and to ensure the safety of our staff and company members, all eligible audience members are required to provide proof of a Covid-19 booster shot. This includes anyone who received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least five months ago, or a Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago. Booster eligibility and additional information from the CDC can be found here.

The booster requirement only requires proof of having received a shot. You do not have to wait an additional two weeks for entry to one of our performances after being boosted.

If you or anyone in your party is not yet eligible for a Covid-19 booster, you are still welcome to join us. You’ll still need to provide proof that you are at least two weeks past your full vaccination and a photo ID.

Please note: Recent Covid-19 infection does not exempt you from the booster requirement.

Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to permit any attendees under the age of five and any other individuals who have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Guests may present proof of vaccination via their CDC Vaccination card (on paper or a photo), the NYC Covid Safe app, Excelsior Pass (those vaccinated in New York State), the Docket App (New Jersey residents), or their NYC Vaccination Record. Additional information on the vaccination requirement and increased safety protocols can be found at irishrep.org/explore/reopening-roadmap.

All guests must wear a properly fitting mask over their nose and mouth at all times in the theatre, even while seated. Masks must not have vents or exhalation valves and gaiters, scarves, and bandanas are not considered acceptable face coverings. We strongly encourage audience members to use a surgical mask, KN95 or N95 mask, and will provide approved masks upon request. Guests ages 18 and older must present a valid government-issued photo ID. Guests under 18 may also show a school photo ID.

16) AWARD-WINNING SONGWRITER JOEY CONTRERAS AND SPECIAL GUESTS TO PERFORM AT  FEINSTEIN’S/54 BELOW ON  MONDAY, APRIL 18, 2022

Joey Contreras will bring “In the Works, with Special Guests,” to Feinstein’s/54 Below on April 18, 2022. Having amassed millions of streams and acclaim from his various theatre albums, Joey is playing selections from three of his new stage musicals. From the New York love stories heard in his popular show, In Pieces, the heartfelt yet haunting meditation on grief and identity in Forget Me Not (with Kate Thomas), and the fiery hot pulse of Heartbreakers in Hell (with Benjamin Halstead), audiences will be treated to the Broadway pop versatility Joey Contreras brings  to the canon of exciting new musical theatre.

In Pieces reflects on the romantic journeys of six individuals, as they share, ponder and look back on the chosen paths and partners along the way. Set in New York City, there’s the scary excitement of being vulnerable and saying yes to whatever adventure is ahead. The magical first kiss. An unlikely friendship. Well-kept secrets. The monotony. The rebound. An awkward reunion on the 1 train. And the honest conversations of deserving more. All these pieces of a life that at times connect and disconnect, but once at a distance, come together to create a universal remembrance of what it’s like to be young and learning in love. The star-studded highlights recording, In Pieces: A New Musical (Highlights) released by Broadway Records in 2021 featured performances by American Idol’s David Archuleta, Andrew Barth Feldman (Dear Evan Hansen), George Salazar (Superstore),  Solea Pfeiffer (Hamilton), Ben Fankhauser (Newsies) and more. The underground popularity of the show has spawned multiple licensed productions in the US, UK and Australia in its first year. Producers are eying a 2023 commercial run.

In Heartbreakers in Hell, there are exactly nine ways to break a heart, and there’s a special place in Hell for each type of heartbreaker. This modernized, pop-music adaptation of "Dante's Inferno" intertwines Dante Aligheieri’s medieval mythic Hellscape with the realities of modern day dating. We follow Dante, a contemplative poet, as he journeys deeper and deeper into the fiery depths, falling in and out of love with the sinners, monsters, and demons within each circle of Hell. "Ye who enter" should expect an experience like the intimate, conceptual storytelling of the musical "Company," erupting with the ferocious grandiosity of a Lady Gaga arena concert. A concept EP and visual album, Heartbreakers in Hell: The First Date Mixtape, was released in February 2022, featuring performances by Keri René Fuller (Six), Deon’te Goodman (Hamilton), Katherine Thomas (Ragtime), Nick Martinez (Bat Out of Hell), Megan Masako Haley (Mean Girls) and more.

Forget Me Not is an original story that explores grief, identity and missing white woman syndrome (heavily discussed in the media most recently with the Gabby Petito case). In Forget Me Not, a whale washes ashore in a coastal town in 1998, and brings a burst of attention to the remote community. Townspeople initially welcome the interest, but that all changes, when a journalist decides to reopen a cold case that has long haunted them. Ten years prior to the whale, three local women were strangled on the beaches of Forget-Me-Not Cove, but the murderer was never found. When Pete Medina, the brother of one of the victims, returns home after a decade to reinvestigate, he and his fellow townspeople are forced to confront the grief they have buried. This stunning dive into the past leads to an explosive reveal, and ultimately, collective healing. Forget Me Not is a new ensemble musical that not only upends the murder mystery trope, but urges us to wonder what we would do to keep from being forgotten. Jacob Dickey (Company) and Kerstin Anderson (My Fair Lady) have been attached to the project over the last five years. A concept EP is planned for a Winter 2022 release.

Joining Contreras are Keri René Fuller (Six, Jagged Little Pill), Jacob Dickey (Company, Aladdin), Deon’te Goodman (Hamilton), Cailen Fu (Mean Girls),  Nick Martinez (Bat Out of Hell), Ben Fankhauser (A.D. 16), Leslie Hiatt (The Evolution of Mann), Diana Huey (The Little Mermaid), Brad Greer (Anastasia, The Bridges of Madison County), Henry Platt (“Sing On!”), Mia Gerachis (Jekyll & Hyde, Creator of Bored Belting), Sean Doherty (The Lightning Thief), Noah Virgile (The Royal Family of Broadway), Denise Neumerkel, Max Heitmann, and Senzel Ahmady, The evening is produced by Contreras and Zachary Hausman.
