I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

A free-spirited salesman sweeps through the Jewish bungalow colony and awakens Pearl to a version of herself she’d forgotten.

While contending with a rebellious teenage daughter, a mother-in-law who knows too much, and a loving husband who is content with the status quo, Pearl must decide if she’s willing to break free from her predictable world to embrace the unknown. The plays have been selected in partnership with Pregones/PRTT and will be workshopped and performed in a reading series this summer in Roundabout and Pregones/PRTT spaces, featuring on stage and behind-the-scenes artists from both theaters.  In the fall, a streamed version of three readings will be available online featuring both English and Spanish.

The play streaming series is free of charge.  All suggested donations will directly support Pregones/PRTT and their ongoing work championing the rich Latinx cultural legacy of theatre.

The Refocus Project also features a robust selection of materials, available to industry professionals and the public, including an online resource library and community and education events.

Audiences can access The Refocus Project here.

How do you make it through detention? In the worst high school in the city, six Black students are stuck in Room 111. They flirt. They fight. They tease. Should they follow the rules and stay put, or find an escape? Are the walls keeping them in, or are stronger forces at play? Dave Harris’s new work crackles with humor and suspense—confronting the tactics for surviving institutions that were not built for you.

This production of Exception to the Rule comes from a combination of several of Roundabout’s emerging-artists programs, including the New Play Initiative and the Roundabout Directing Fellowship.

Now in its 14th season, Roundabout Underground is part of Roundabout’s New Play Initiative, discovering new writers, producing their New York debuts, and providing them long-term development and production support. Decker will run from May 25 to October 30, 2022 from Pier 16 (Fulton and South Streets). South Street and the Rise of New York explores the critical role played by the Seaport and South Street in securing New York's place as America's leading city and its rise to become the world's busiest port by the start of the 20th century. The exhibition draws from the Seaport Museum's vast collection of works of art and artifacts via large reproduction and selected artifacts on display related to the 19th century history of the Port of New York.

“New York has one of the best natural harbors in the world,” said guest curator Michael R. Harrison. “This amazing harbor allowed New Yorkers to develop world-wide connections that made the city an economic and cultural powerhouse. The port fostered the city’s energy, and that energy attracted the talent and skill of people from around the world, making New York the most ethnically diverse place on the planet.

The exhibition highlights Schermerhorn Row, the block of warehouses and offices that stand on man-made land reclaimed from the East River between about 1797 and 1807; the Museum's fleet of historic ships, which tell the story of New York as a great port city through their connections to world commerce, coastal deliveries, and the working harbor; and Bowne & Co., a contemporary re-interpretation of one of the many printing offices that flourished in lower Manhattan in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Millions: Migrants and Millionaires aboard the Great Liners, 1900–1914 is one of the first exhibitions to examine, side-by-side, the dichotomy between First Class and Third Class passengers aboard ocean liners in the early 20th century. This exhibition features both original and reproduction artifacts from the Museum's permanent collection including ocean liner memorabilia and ephemera, ceramics, and luggage trunks from both immigrants and First Class passengers.

“Ships like TitanicOlympicLusitaniaMauretania, Aquitania, and Imperator dominated transatlantic travel,” noted William Roka, former Historian at the Seaport Museum. “On each voyage, they transported thousands of people: First Class passengers sailed across the Atlantic in the lap of luxury while Third Class passengers made the voyage in the stuffy lower decks. From 1900 to 1914, nearly 13 million immigrants traveling in Third Class arrived in the United States. During this same period, America's wealthiest citizens, totaling no more than a hundred thousand passengers each year, traveled to Europe in First Class, spending over $11.5 billion (2017) on luxury vacations. Even though First Class and Third Class sailed on the same ships, their journeys were worlds apart.”

The exhibition will familiarize viewers with passenger life aboard ocean liners, the defining differences between travel for wealthy Americans in First Class and future Americans immigrating to the United States in Third Class.

23) American Indian Artists Inc. (AMERINDA) Presents
THE TROJAN WOMEN:
A NATIVE AMERICAN ADAPTATION

American Indian Artists Inc. (AMERINDA) will present THE TROJAN WOMEN: A NATIVE AMERICAN ADAPTATION, directed and adapted by Sarah B. Denison. Previews begin on April 28 at Theatre for the New City with opening night slated for May 6.

THE TROJAN WOMEN: A NATIVE AMERICAN ADAPTATION is a retelling of the classic Greek play The Trojan Women by Euripides. It follows the fates of the women of Troy after a devastating battle, as told through a Native American lens. Exploring themes of colonization and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW), it is the story of not only the destruction caused by war, but also of the hope, strength, and survival of Native American matriarchal society. Using Native iconography, traditional Native music and design aesthetics and elements of historical realism of the director’s Native nation, this bold new interpretation draws upon classical Greek theater as an indigenous art form.

THE TROJAN WOMEN: A NATIVE AMERICAN ADAPTATION runs April 28 – May 15, Thursday - Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm.  Theater for the New City is located at 155 First Avenue at 10th Street – accessible from the L train at 14th Street. 25) Writer/performer Kim Katzberg is inaugural
Artist-In-Residence at wild project

New residency program developed to aid independent performing artists
in the development of new solo work

Katzberg’s new show, WHOLE K-HOLE, will premiere in April
at the end of her two-week residency

wild project is thrilled to kick off their new Artist-In-Residence program, supporting new solo work by independent performing artists, with their inaugural Artist-in-Residence Kim Katzberg. Katzenberg’s new show WHOLE K-HOLE will perform on April 29 and April 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the conclusion of a two-week residency at wild project (195 E. 3rd Street, between Avenues A & B). Tickets are $15 and are available by calling the wild project box office at 212-228-1195 or by visiting thewildproject.org.

Actor and writer Kim Katzberg embodies a plethora of darkly comedic characters, including her bipolar suburban Mom circa 1991, in this semi-autobiographical daring, new, solo play. Original songs (sung by a non-singer) zig-zag through a world centered on a strip mall hair salon and the fictional public access TV show, V.C. Andrews’ Faerie Tale Theatre. The piece shines a light on intergenerational mental illness and the pain hidden within a person who wrestles with a troubled mind. The play asks: what are the consequences when an individual’s mental illness is dismissed or denied?

And that's the Scoop. Tune in tomorrow for More Theater Monday.
