I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

6) LES ARTS FLORISSANTS OFFERS THE VIRTUAL PREMIERE OF THE ORCHESTRA’S PERFORMANCE OF HAYDN’S PARIS SYMPHONY NO. 87 ON LINCOLN CENTER AT HOME
JANUARY 11, 2021
Conducted by William Christie, the Concert was Filmed Without an Audience
at the Philharmonie de Paris in October 2020

William Christie and Les Arts Florissants present the virtual premiere of the Orchestra’s performance of Haydn’s Symphony No. 87, the last of his six so-called “Paris symphonies,” starting at 2PM EST on Monday, January 11, 2021. The concert was recorded on October 27 at the Philharmonie de Paris and the 30-minute film includes a short introduction by William Christie and first violinist Hiro Kurosaki. It will be available for streaming for three months on Lincoln Center at Home, Lincoln Center’s Facebook Page, and on Les Arts Florissants’ website and social media platforms.

Over three seasons starting in 2019, Christie and Les Arts Florissants intended to explore these inventive symphonies—composed when Haydn was at the height of his powers—along with concerti performed by some of today’s young virtuoso instrumental and vocal soloists. When ongoing COVID-19 restrictions changed their planned October 2020 performances in Paris and in New York at Lincoln Center, the ensemble made a video recording of Symphony No. 87, which would have been performed as part of their Lincoln Center concert. The film was captured by Paris-based JBP FILMS (J.Blanch Productions), with the support of the American Friends of Les Arts Florissants.

Written in 1785 and 1786, and commissioned by the Concerts de la loge Olympique, then one of Europe’s best orchestras, Haydn’s “Paris symphonies” quickly gained favor with the Parisian public and became the veritable summit of the classic Viennese symphony in Europe. Such was his popularity during the 1780s, it would have been unthinkable for the musicians who created Concert Spirituel—Paris’s first public concert series, which offered sacred choral works and virtuosic instrumental pieces during the Roman Catholic holy days when the opera house was closed—to start each half of a concert with anything other than a symphony by Joseph Haydn.

Haydn - Symphony No. 87 in A Major, Hob. I/87
Les Arts Florissants, orchestra
William Christie, Founder and Musical Director
Access: Free streaming starting 2PM EST on Monday, January 11, 2021 on Lincoln Center at Home, Lincoln Center’s Facebook Page, and on Les Arts Florissants’ website and social media platforms.

My Identity by George Salazar
I spent my life trying to navigate what it means to be mixed-race. Being half-Filipino and half-Ecuadorian, I struggled throughout my life to find where I belong. The pause we've sat in as a result of this pandemic gave me the opportunity to really look within and also look outside to find a way to further build community with my mixed race friends and family. We've opened up and talked about our own identity crises and our bonds are stronger than ever. This piece is the result of a passage I wrote, transformed into a sort of monologue/spoken word/mini-one-man-show piece. I filmed it entirely in self-isolation between television jobs, FaceTiming with my parents and asking friends and family to submit videos. After putting the piece together, I sat on my cajon (a box drum) to provide a percussive underscore to help lift and tell my story. My hope is that other mixed race artists focus their storytelling to share their own journeys of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and self-love. Representation matters and every bit of it counts. Special Thanks to Works & Process at the Guggenheim, Jonah Salazar, George Salazar Sr, Janice Perez, Sabrina Shamblin, Pia Paulino, Anna Paulino, Christopher Paulino, Elizabeth Shamblin, Diane Phelan, Mike Millan, Troy Iwata, Holly Meadows-Smith, Sam Levin, Lilli Cooper, Ben Levin, and Sydney Lipez

Works & Process Artists (WPA) Virtual Commissions, a direct response to the pandemic, was launched in April to financially support artists and nurture their creative process during these challenging times. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, is granting more than $150,000 in commissioning funds to artists who have been or were supposed to be featured at Works & Process. Artists from a wide variety of genres have been commissioned to create new works, less than 5 minutes long, while social distancing, that will premiere on FacebookInstagram and YouTube (@worksandprocess) every Sunday and Monday at 7:30pm and can be viewed anytime after.
