I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday: Books: The Best New True Crime Stories Serial Killers & Movies: Our Friend

We may have been given complimentary copies of any books and/or other products and/or access to any movies mentioned below for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books:  The Best New True Crime Stories Serial Killers

Today we are talking about The Best New True Crime Stories Serial Killers edited by Mitzi Szereto. This book is not full of tales of infamous notorious criminals whose crimes have already been covered numerous times before like Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Jeffrey Dahmer. On the contrary, the killers covered in this book may be just as vicious, sadistic, and cruel, but you have probably never heard of them before. They include Tsutomu Miyzaki (The Rat Man),  Clifford Olson (The Beast of BC), husband and wife murderers, Fred and Rose West, and many more.  The crimes covered are not confined to any one time period but occurred in periods ranging from the late 1800s through the 2010s. They are not confined to any one country either but serial killers from numerous countries are covered within this book including ones from England, Brazil, Canada, and more. The one thing they all have in common is the absolute monstrosity and appallingness of their crimes. Accordingly,  I wouldn't say this is a book to enjoy exactly, but if you don't mind reading books that focus on the darker side of life, you may find it fascinating.

Movies: Our Friend

Today we are recommending Our Friend. This heartwrenching true story is about the ultimate friendship - one that goes way beyond the normal bonds that connect people.  Matthew and Nicole Teague were a married couple with two young children. Dane Facheux was their friend. When Nicole was diagnosed with cancer, Dane literally uprooted his life for approximately two years to move in with the Teagues and help them through Nicole's illness. Despite the sadness at its core, the film is ultimately uplifting. It restores your faith in humanity because it shows that they are people in this world who care enough about other people to literally be there for them no matter what. After all, we have been through in the past year as a country and also globally, that is not only nice to know but also heartwarming and even comforting.

Our Friend stars Casey Affleck, Dakota Johnson, and Jason Segel and is available now in select theaters and at home on demand.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.
