Me & Mom - Another new theater company has been created to bring back limited run revivals of old musicals. As far as we are concerned, there can never been too many of these groups that give audiences the opportunity to see musicals they might otherwise never have gotten to see. This one is called J2 Spotlight Musical Theatre Company, and they recently opened their very first season with the musical, Seesaw. Seesaw is based on the William Gibson play Two for the Seesaw. The show ran very briefly on Broadway and is known for Tommy Tune's long-legged high kicking dance up a set of stairs. The plot is not the most interesting and the way the show is written it feels like you are starting in the middle of the story. There are some nice although not especially memorable songs. The acting and singing in the current production is good, however. The dancing is especially nice, even though, of course, nobody is even able to come close to dancing up a staircase in such a small theater. We look forward forward to J2 Spotlight Musical Theatre Company's future shows. Their next production will be No Strings which will run from February 27 through March 9, 2020 followed by their last show of the season A Class Act which will run from March 12 through March 22.
And that's our view. For more information or to purchase tickets to Seesaw or either of the other upcoming J2 Spotlight Musical Theatre Company shows, go to www.j2spotlightnyc.com.
Tune in Saturday for Still More Theater Saturday.
