I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday - Holiday Windows Walking Tour 2018

Here is a rundown of New York City's major department store decorations. Over all, this year's decorations were underwhelming and not as good as last year's. Some of the smaller stores had much better decorations. We will talk about those in a separate post next week.

Bloomingdales is located at Lexington Avenue between 59th and 60th Street. This year Bloomingdales is actually one of the nicer decorated stores. At least they have a recognizable theme which many people might enjoy. We just prefer their theme from last year. This year their theme is the Grinch and their windows do have some cool interactives including karaoke. However, if you go just be advised that the interactive features are turned off at 7:00 PM. We just don't understand why it was necessary to have a feature film of The Grinch when the original is such a classic.

Barneys is located at Madison Avenue between 60th and 61st . Barney's has the worst decorations of all. We walked past the store several times before we realized we were there because it doesn't even look decorated. The whole thing consists of words with pennies behind them. Apparently, they were going for some minimalist theme, but we don't get it.

Bergdorf Goodman is located at Fifth Avenue between 57th and 58th. Bergdorf Goodman is the best of the lot this year. Their them is goodies. On one side of the street, they have windows decorated around different tasty themes including ice cream, peppermint, and cotton candy. On the other side, they have gingerbread men and mannequins with candy heads including peeps. jelly beans and more. Their windows are fun and colorful and will make you hungry.

Saks Fifth Avenue is located at Fifth Avenue between 49th and 50th. Saks Fifth Avenue's theme this year has something to do with movies and dreaming. We don't quite get it. Although some of the windows are nice. They also have a colorful music and light show as they have in previous years. However, just be advised that due to the popularity of the light show and the stores proximity to the popular Rockefeller Center area, it gets extremely crowded so if you don't like large crowds go very early in the morning or very late at night.

Lord & Taylor  is located at Fifth Avenue between 38th and 39th. After being around since 1826, this is Lord & Taylor's last year. Accordingly, their decorations are a celebration of their decorations through the years. They consist of video screens that play a continuous loop of scenes from their decorations from previous years. While we appreciate the sentiment, and it is fun to see all the old decorations most of which we never saw before, it is not as fun to look at decorations on a screen as to see decorations right in front of you.

Macy's located at 34 Street between 34th and 35th: Macy's theme this year is a snowman who travels into space and helps Santa Claus. It was cute and kids would probably enjoy it. However, over all, it just wasn't that interesting to us.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
