I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

True West Starts Previews
on Broadway
with Hawk & Dano

A new Broadway production of Sam Shepard’s Tony & Pulitzer Prize-nominated drama TRUE WEST, directed by James Macdonald (The Children)starring acclaimed screen and stage actors Ethan Hawke as “Lee” and Paul Dano as “Austin”  begins preview performances on December 27, 2018 and officially open on Broadway on Thursday, January 24, 2019. This will be a limited engagement at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42nd Street).

Opposites attack in Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated play about two brothers with more in common than they think. Holed up in their mother’s California house, screenwriter Austin (Dano) and lowlife Lee (Hawke) wrestle with big issues—and each other. Order vs. chaos. Art vs. commerce. Typewriter vs. toaster...Shepard’s rip-roaring classic returns to Broadway, gleefully detonating our misguided myths of family, identity and the American Dream.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:
True West will play Tuesday through Saturday evening at 8:00PM with Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2:00PM and Sunday matinees at 3:00PM.

THE YORK THEATRE COMPANY KICKS OFF THE NEW YEAR WITH A CHANGE IN THE 2019 WINTER MUSICALS IN MUFTI SERIES CELEBRATING THE ALAN JAY LERNER CENTENNIAL

THE DAY BEFORE SPRING BOOK AND LYRICS BY ALAN JAY LERNER MUSIC BY FREDERICK LOEWE FEBRUARY 9 – 17, 2019 AT THE YORK THEATRE AT

SAINT PETER’S SPECIAL MUFTI SERIES EVENTS INCLUDE ALMOST LIKE BEING IN LOVE: AN EVENING OF LERNER & LOEWE…AND FRIENDS FEBRUARY 25, 2019, AT 7:00 P.M.

THEATER HISTORIAN CHARLES TROY RETURNS WITH THE CREATION OF MY FAIR LADY MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2019 AT 7:00 P.M.

THE CREATION OF CAMELOT ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2019 AT 7:00 P.M. TICKETS NOW ON SALE

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director) has announced today the short-lived 1945 musical The Day Before Spring, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, will replace the previously announced Dance a Little Closer as part of the 2019 Winter Musicals in Mufti series at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

The 2019 Winter Musicals in Mufti series celebrates Alan Jay Lerner with a look at three of his musicals: Carmelina (January 26 - February 3, 2019), The Day Before Spring (February 9 – 17, 2019), and Lolita, My Love (February 23 – March 3, 2019). The Day Before Spring replaces the previously announced Dance a Little Closer.

These musical theatre gems, performed in a simply-staged, book-in-hand concert format, are part of the Muftis’ twenty-fifth historic year of presenting shows from the past that deserve a second look. Mufti means “in street clothes, without the trappings of a full production.”

Opening the 2019 winter series is Carmelina, with music by Burton Lane, lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, additional lyrics by Barry Harman, and book by Joseph Stein and Alan Jay Lerner. Performances begin Saturday afternoon, January 26, 2019 and continue for 11 performances only through February 3, 2019. Opening Night will be Sunday evening, January 27, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

For the second show in the series, The York revisits one of Lerner and Loewe’s lesser-known gems with the short-lived 1945 The Day Before Spring. A married woman attends a college reunion where she encounters the man with whom she almost eloped ten years before. Romantically stirred by a novel he has written about her, she considers leaving her husband and reuniting with her former flame. With a score that was never recorded, moments of The Day Before Spring served as inspiration for such Lerner and Loewe classics as Gigi and My Fair Lady. Although the show was previously seen in a Mufti staging in 2007, this presentation will feature the full original score, recently being discovered for a 2010 UK production–its first hearing in New York since 1945. Performances begin Saturday afternoon, February 9, 2019 and continue for 11 performances only through February 17, 2019. Opening Night will be Sunday evening, February 10, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Closing out the popular Mufti series celebration is Lolita, My Love, with music by John Barry and book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, based on the 1955 novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Performances are set to begin Saturday afternoon, February 23, 2019 and continue for 11 performances only through March 3, 2019. Opening Night will be Sunday evening, February 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

SPECIAL MUFTI SERIES EVENTS: Special events surrounding the Lerner celebration, will include ALMOST LIKE BEING IN LOVE: AN EVENING OF LERNER & LOEWE…AND FRIENDS on February 25, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., and two multimedia events presented by theater historian Charles Troy: The Creation of My Fair Lady set for Monday, February 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. and The Creation of Camelot on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.
