I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Saturday Special - Broadway Playhouse: Jerry Herman and Hey Look Me Over!

We recently had the opportunity to see the following shows. We were given free tickets to these shows for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Broadway Playhouse: Jerry Herman

Where: Merkin Concert Hall
            129 W. 67th
            New York, NY

When: This event occured on February 11, 2018

Me - Broadway Playhouse: Jerry Herman was fun. They talked about the composer, Jerry Herman. His shows included Mame, Hello Dolly, Mack and Mabel,  and La Cage Aux Follles. They sang all or parts of some of his songs including Showtune from Parade, The Best of Times from La Cage Aux Folles and many of the songs from Hello Dolly.   A few kids got to go on stage and play Pin the Mustache on  the  Composer. It was like Pin the Tail on the Donkey. A couple of others kids got to participate in a quick version of Hello Dolly. It wasn't like the real show, but it was fun. All in all, Broadway Playhouse: Jerry Herman was a really entertaining show. Kids who love theater would enjoy this informative and engaging series. In fact, anyone who really loves Broadway and showtunes would probably enjoy it.

The final show in this year's Broadway Playhouse series Broadway Playhouse: Andrew Lloyd Webber will be on Sunday March 4, 2018. For more information or to order tickets, visit www.kaufmanmusiccenter.org/mch/series/broadway-playhouse.

Mom's view: Hey Look Me Over! was the first show in the 25th anniversary season of City Center's popular Encores! series of limited run revivals of Broadway musicals. Instead of taking on one particular musical as they usually do, this time in honor of this special anniversary, they decided to present scenes and songs from several shows. Although many if not most of the shows may not have been ones that were particularly well known, the songs chosen were very entertaining and included a bunch of rousing chorus and/or a dance numbers as well as some sweet ballads. The cast was amazingly talented and included such well known Broadway stars (and Encores! alumni) as Carolee Carmello, Bebe Neuwirth and Judy Kuhn. The whole evening was a delight from start to finish. If this is indicative of what this season at Encores! is going to be like, you won't want to miss their two remaining shows, Grand Hotel which will run from March 21 - 25 and Me and My Girl which will run from May 9-13.
