I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

LA MAMA KIDS SEASON
74 E. 4th St.
New York, NY

La MaMa’s wildly popular family series LA MAMA KIDS returns this season with a line-up of Family Friendly productions and workshops from artists including a show by Heather Henson and Ty Defoe in February; Jane Catherine Shaw back with a new puppet performance in September;  Winter Wonderland, a site-specific holiday performance in December; an adaptation of Don Quixote by Loco 7 Dance Puppet Theatre, directed by Federico Restrepo in April; Perry Yung and Slant Performance Group’s Family Play Date in June as well as workshops throughout the season by artists such as  Potri Ranka Manis and CultureHub.

La MaMa Kids is a series of creative workshops and performances for the young and the young at heart. Ellen Stewart Lobby

Art brings meaning and inspiration to the way we experience the world around us. Children are naturally predisposed to the Arts with their rich imaginations and love for storytelling.

As a teaching artist, Leah Lawrence offers drama classes that enable children to strengthen their performance skills and their ability to work collaboratively in a group. To quote Antonin Artaud, “the actor is the athlete of the heart” and therefore learns to be vulnerable and authentic with fellow actors and in front of an audience. The benefit of exposing children to acting at a young age is the increased confidence they feel in expressing their own unique voice and presenting it. In order to nurture creative and innovative minds, drama classes can provide the space for children to enter a state of play, the bedrock of the creative process. This is not competitive play to win but instead collaborative play to create.

In this LaMaMa kids workshop, children will play theater games, sing, move, and act out stories in a safe and fun environment. As it is the week of Thanksgiving, all of the creative games and exercises will focus on the theme of giving thanks.

It's about how to love after being broken by the horrors of war. It's about refugees who get out before it's too late, and those who get out after it's too late. And it's about looking into the eyes of God.

When a bright, liberal, Harvard Law School graduate embarks on a nerve-wracking clerkship with the conservative Justice, she discovers him to be both an infuriating sparring partner and an unexpected mentor. How will their relationship affect one of the most incendiary cases ever to reach the nation’s highest court?

HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN written by Hershey Felder, directed by Trevor Hay
With Hershey Felder
Produced by The Town Hall in Association with Hershey Felder Presents

In LATIN HISTORY FOR MORONS John Leguizamo schools his son—and the rest of us—on the buried and forgotten history of Latinos in the Americas in this outrageously funny, satirical one-man play about uncovering the truth, and recovering from the past.

Inspired by the near total absence of Latinos in his son’s American history books, Leguizamo embarks on a frenzied search to find a Latin hero for his son’s school project. From a mad recap of the Aztec empire to stories of unknown Latin patriots of the Revolutionary War and beyond, Leguizamo breaks down the 3,000 years between the Mayans and Ricky Ricardo into 95 irreverent and uncensored minutes in his trademark style.

THE HOT MUSICAL DUO
"THE SKIVVIES"
WILL PLAY AN ENCORE CONCERT PERFORMANCE
WITH THE CAST OF THE NEW HIT MUSICAL

DESPERATE MEASURES
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2017
AT THE YORK THEATRE COMPANY AT SAINT PETER'S

SPECIAL GUESTS

JAMES SNYDER AND LESLIE MCDONEL

TICKETS NOW ON SALE

Based on the success of a recent one-night only concert, the hot musical duo The Skivvies, Lauren Molina (Bella Rose in The York's current production of Desperate Measures) and Nick Cearley, will return to The York Theatre Company for an encore performance with the cast of the new hit Off-Broadway musical Desperate Measures, and more, for another outrageous, feel-good "undie-rock" concert.

Following the performance of Desperate Measures, on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, The Skivvies will be joined by special guests James Snyder (Cry Baby), Leslie McDonel (American Idiot), and the full cast of Desperate Measures (Emma Degerstedt, Gary Marachek, Conor Ryan, Peter Saide, and Nick Wyman) onstage at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (619 Lexington Avenue, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). (Subject to change.)

The Skivvies are an acclaimed duo of singer/musicians who perform clever genre-hopping musical arrangements that showcase the artists' soaring voices and tight harmonies - all with a minimalist dress code to reflect their stripped-down musical style! Expect ukulele, electric cello and an array of zany instruments.

Rapidly building a widespread following, The Skivvies have performed in leading venues such as Joe's Pub and Feinstein's/54 Below, and have been featured in People Magazine, The New York Times, BuzzFeed, Time Out New York and Sports Illustrated. The band has shot pilots for A&E, FOX and WE.

Lauren Molina made her mark on Broadway starring as the cello-playing Johanna in John Doyle's critically-acclaimed actor-musician revival of Sweeney Todd starring Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris. She went on to originate the role of Regina in the hit '80s rock musical Rock of Ages Off-Broadway when it began at New World Stages and transferred with the production to Broadway.

Nick Cearley has starred in numerous smashes, and just finished a run as Brad in The Rocky Horror Show at Bucks County Playhouse. Other highlights include Alex More in Buyer and Cellar, Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, national Broadway tour of All Shook Up, and Off-Broadway productions such as Pageant - The Musical.

Audiences are encouraged to attend Desperate Measures at 7:00 p.m., and to stay for special Desperate Measures themed cocktails and The Skivvies show at 10:00 p.m. The concert will run 65 minutes. The concert is free to those who purchase a full price ticket to Desperate Measures for that evening's performance priced $67.50.  Concert only tickets are available at $25.  York Theatre Company Member tickets are available at $15.  Tickets may be purchased by calling (212) 935-58205820>, online at www.yorktheatre.org, or in person at the box office at the York Theatre at Saint Peter's (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue), Monday through Friday (12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.).
