AMERICAN THEATRE WING & SHOW-SCORE.COM
PARTNER ON “SWING SEATS”

INNOVATIVE COLLABORATION

MAKING TICKETS AVAILABLE TO
STUDENTS AND EARLY-CAREER THEATER MAKERS

The American Theatre Wing and Show-Score.com today announced “Swing Seats”, a new service that aims increase the amount of tickets for theater students, interns, and artists by pairing them with New York City theatergoers who have spare theater tickets.

How it works:

·         Anyone with an extra theater ticket can go to www.show-score.com/swingseats and fill out a simple form with the name of the show, the performance date, and the number of spare tickets they have. The ticket donor’s personal information is not disclosed.

·         Notice of the available ticket is immediately communicated by email to theater students, interns, and artists who are identified and screened by the American Theatre Wing. Tickets are assigned to the recipient on a first-come first-served basis, who then pays a $10 service fee to ensure participation. The fee is split between the American Theatre Wing and Show-Score.com. The recipient’s personal information is also not disclosed.

·         Show-Score.com then facilitates the ticket hand-off, either in person or via email, depending on the situation.

The service is called “Swing” Seats in homage to the important work of the “swing” position in a cast, who can seamlessly fill in when others are not available.

Audience members looking to give away their tickets can visit http://www.show-score.com/swingseats.

Students and early-career theater makers who wish to express interest in participating may contact the American Theatre Wing at

TONY AWARD-WINNER
SARAH JONES
TO HOST EIGHTH ANNUAL
LILLY AWARDS
CELEBRATING WOMEN OF DISTINCTION IN THE AMERICAN THEATER
MONDAY, MAY 22
AT PLAYWRIGHTS HORIZONS

The 8th Annual Lilly Awards Ceremony, which celebrates women of distinction in the American Theater, will this year be hosted by Tony Award-winning playwright, Sarah Jones, with honorees to be announced soon. Year after year, the Lilly Awards honors the extraordinary contributions made to the American Theater by women. This year, the Lilly Awards will be presented Monday, May 22, at Playwrights Horizons (416 West 42nd St).

The Lilly Awards firmly believes that taking an artist's identity into consideration in casting, programming and hiring creates a more vibrant, more interesting and more valuable American theater; that taking diversity into consideration is not a step away from a meritocracy, it is a step towards one. The Lilly Awards created The National Count, the largest and only continuous study of the programming choices of non-profit theaters, that has shown that while women's work is vastly underrepresented, the work of women of color specifically is seen far less, as is that of LGBT women and women of foreign birth. The Lilly Awards intends to fill the stage this year with women we want to see more of on our stages, from early careers to established ones.

For additional information about the Lilly Awards (including a list of all past recipients), visit www.thelillyawards.org.

                        Birdland Jazz Club
Is proud to announce award-winning actress GLENN CLOSE to make her Birdland debut!

Glenn Close
And the cast of Sunset Boulevard present
“Vintage Hollywood”

On Monday, May 22 at 9:30pm

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is thrilled to announce Glenn Close in “Vintage Hollywood,” a fundraising concert on Monday, May 22 at 9:30pm.  Ms. Close will be joined by the cast of Sunset Boulevard in this one-night-only event benefiting Bring Change 2 Mind, which works to end the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness.

“Vintage Hollywood” will feature musical combinations celebrating the Golden Age of Hollywood, with musical direction by Michael Patrick Walker. This special one-night-only event will take place in place of the regularly-scheduled Jim Caruso’s Cast Party.

Glenn Close understands that mental health is something that affects all families. Yet, few talk about it. It was not until her sister, Jessie Close, received a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and her nephew, Calen Pick, was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder that the Close Family took action. In 2009, her family asked Ms. Close to use her platform to end the stigma surrounding mental illness. In 2010, the Close Family co-founded Bring Change 2 Mind (BC2M), a nonprofit organization built to start the conversation about mental health, and to raise awareness, understanding, and empathy. BC2M develops influential public service announcements (PSAs), including its most recent campaign, #MindOurFuture, has piloted evidence-based programs at the university (UBC2M) and high school (LETS BC2M) levels engaging students to reduce stigma and discrimination, and has created a social movement around change by providing people with platforms to share, connect, and learn.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series, curated by Jim Caruso, takes place every week on the stage of the historic music room, located in the heart of Manhattan’s Theater District.
