I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday - New Jersey State Police Museum

What: The New Jersey State Police Museum

Where: River Road (Route 175)
Between Interstate 95 and West Upper Ferry Rd.
              West Trenton, NJ

Who: Teens and Up

Me - The New Jersey State Police Museum is an interesting museum. They have a lot of fascinating artifacts. They have missing posters from real missing persons cases, They have devices that were used in illegal gambling rings. They have fingerprint kits. They even have a place where you can figure out what kind of fingerprint you have. They also have a fake crime scene and an interactive video which takes you through a crime scene investigation. They have different police uniforms from different times. They have a lot of police badges. All the badges have numbers. You can search the badge number and find out about the policeman it belonged to. There was only one New Jersey State Policeman ever who did not have a badge number. There are a lot of videos throughout the exhibit which tell different things and make it more interactive. There is also a whole lot more. Even though the museum is small, it has quite a lot of interesting artifacts and information. I learned  a lot about police work from the museum. It really made me appreciate all that the police do.

Mom - For a small museum the New Jersey State Police Museum is jam packed with interesting objects and information. You can really learn a lot about being a policeman, and the different types of crimes that they handle from visiting this museum. There  are confiscated guns, a  prohibion era still,  tickets from the 1964 Democratic convention which took place in Atlantic City and required a large police presence, and  a whole lot more more. There are display cases devoted to Canine cops, drunk driving , the DARE antidrug program, School Safety and more. There are plenty of interactive videos including one that takes you through the history of the New Jersey State Police since they were first founded in in 1921. There are uniforms and models of police cars from different time periods. There is even a whole exhibit devoted to the Lindbergh case, which we will talk about in  a separate post next week. I would not recommend this museum for very young children or anyone who scares easily do to the nature of police work and the fact that some of the pictures and/or items may be frightening including a replica crime scene complete with body outline and fake blood stains. However, anyone interested in learning about all that police work encompasses and the history of the New Jersey police in general would find a visit to this intriguing museum quite worthwhile.

The Museum is completely free, but it is only open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and is not open on weekends. For more information, visit www.njsp.org/about/museum.shtml

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.

Tips for Tuesday - Books - The East End & Games: Monster Chase, Zombie Kidz Evolution, & SOS Dino

We may have been given one or more of the books and/or other products mentioned below for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books: The East End

The East End: A Novel by [Allen, Jason]

Mom - Today I am recommending The East End by Jason Allen. This fast paced thrill ride of a novel takes place over the course of a weekend in The Hamptons. Corey; a young man from the wrong side of the tracks; Leo his mother's wealthy boss; Henry, Leo's illicit lover and Angelica an orphaned young woman who has been best friends with Leo's daughter since childhood all converge on a Hampton's House when noone is supposed to be there. Then, there is a mysterious death, a coverup,  a blackmail scheme, and more. This book reads like a really exciting action movie. It draws you in right away and keeps pulling you along at a nonstop pace until the final page.

Games: Monster Chase, Zombie Kidz Evolution, and SOS Dino

Me & Mom - Today we are recommeding three games from Iello Games.

The first game we are recommending is Monster Chase. In this game, the object is to get all the monsters to go back in the closet. This game is fun, and easy to play even for very young children There are also alternate ways to play that make the game a little more difficult  and more fun for older children. It is a cooperative game where the players compete as a team to reach a common goal rather than play against each other. It can be played by up to 6 players or even by one player alone.

The second game we are recommending is Zombie Kidz Evolution. The object of this game is to lock the school before it is over run by Zombies. This game is meant for slightly older children of 7 and above. It is also easy to play. It is also a cooperative game where players play together. This game also has alternate ways to play which keeps it interesting because you are not always playing the exact same game in the exact same way. This game can be played by 2 to 4 players.

The third game we are recommending is SOS Dino. In this game, the object is to save Dinosaurs and Dinosaur eggs from erupting volocanoes. This game is a little more complicated than the two previous games and requires a lot of set up. This game is also meant for ages 7 and up. It also can be played a variety of ways. It also is cooperative game, and can be played by a solo player or by up to 4 players playing together.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday

Monthly Mashup for April, 2019 A Series of Unfortunate Events and Clothes

Me -  My topic for this month is A Series of Unfortunate Events. I don't know why but I suddenly decided to read A Series of Unfortunate Events. At the spurn of the moment , I just decided to get the books on Amazon and watch the series on Netflix. I ended up reading all thirteen books in the span of about six days. After that, I watched the first two seasons of the Netflix series which were the only seasons available at the time. Then, I very impatiently waited for the third and final season to come out. Since then, I have been totally obssessed with this series and really into it. The series, in case you are unfamiliar with it, follows three children who have recently become orphans after the death of their parents in a fire in their home, They are trying to outrun the evil man who is trying to steal their fortune. I love the characters of  the orphans, Klaus, Violet, and Sunny Baudelaire. Sunny is a baby, and in the TV show she is so adorable. It is very amusing seeing the things they have her character do like driving a truck. I really love the show but it gets me so emotional and upset because bad things are always happening to the Baudelaire orphans. The series is very dark although there are moments of lightness. If you are looking for a light happy show, this is not it. However, if you love shows and books that are very suspenseful and full of both good and evil complex characters, you would probably enjoy it.

Mom - My topic for this month is clothes. I am not much of a clotheshorse, but I do like clothes. Most of my clothes I keep for a long long time, and I only usually get a few new things a year. I also get a lot of hand-me down clothes from my Mom and sometimes from some of her friends. I love dresses and skirts as do my daughters. When I was in high school, and the other girls were obssessed with clothes, I always wore jeans except if it was my birthday or something. Then, when I was in college most people wanted to wear sweats and stuff most of the time, I started wanting to dress up. My Mom knows I love purple, and she always used to buy me purple clothes. Once when my girls  and I were shopping with her for clothes for the girls, she bought me a purple skirt. I don't know whatever happened to that skirt. I don't remember getting rid of it. My mother is always going through her clothes and getting rid of things and she used to give them to me. It  got to the point where when I would see her in something I liked I  would think 'I am going to like owning that'. However, now if she thinks it is something my older daughter would like and could wear she gives it to her and if not she gives it to me.  Even though, I do not have a great desire to spend a lot of money on clothes, it would be nice just to have enough money once to go into a store and get whatever clothes I want without having to worry about price. Of course, that will never happen unless we win the lottery, and I doubt that will ever happen.

And that's our view. What's in your mind? Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.
